Amedeo Avogadro
Amedeo Avogadro proposed Avogadro Law and is famous for his contributions in field of chemistry. He was born on August 9, 1776 in Turin, Italy. His father was a famous lawyer and well known advocate whose name was Count Fillip Avogadro. After his early education, he adopted the field of his father and got a degree of Doctorate in 1796 and started practice as a lawyer. After setting up his career in field of law, his interest shifted to fields of mathematics and philosophy and as a result he quitted his successful career as a lawyer. After this, he started to teach mathematics and physics in 1809 in Vercelli.
Achievements
He started another job in University of Turin, Italy as a professor of mathematical physics in 1820. His job was very short timed and he lost it in 1822 because of any political suppression. He got his position back in 1834 and taught there till end of his career which was ended in 1850. According to family’s point of view he lived happily and after marriage he had six sons. Some of the different historians state that he was a religious, pious, humble and a sober man who contributed tremendously in the fields of science and chemistry.
Contributions
Avogadro proposed a theory in 1811, in which he stated that gases contain same number of molecules at the same temperature and pressure. He added more to his theory that weights of any of two different gases are relatively equal to the densities of those gases if the pressure and temperature are kept constant. This was a theory at that time but he proved it from further experiments and researches and soon it became a law which is known as Avogadro’s law. This contribution to field of chemistry made him very famous and his theories were given more importance in upcoming days.
Avogadro’s law
Avogadro’s law is considered as the most important law in the field of chemistry which laid the foundations of chemistry on new basis. He also stated that simple gases are not just simple and they are composed of some atoms. He didn’t use the word of atoms and instead of it, he said that gases are composed and have some smaller parts than molecules which was further named as atoms so we can say that it was Avogadro, who gave the idea of atoms very firstly.
Final days
Amedeo Avogadro is considered as the father of modern chemistry because he provided many new things to chemistry including theory of moles and molecular weight. He is widely famous for his contribution in the field of chemistry. Amedeo Avogadro died in Turin, Italy on 9th July, 1856 in the age of 80 years.
