Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is offering scholarships for international students. These scholarships 2024-25 are offered for those applicants who want to pursue their Master’s and Ph.D. study at any German university and “Fachhochschulen” (Universities of Applied Science). The DAAD is the world’s largest funding organization for the international exchange of students and researchers.

The aim of this scholarship program is to hold up the internationalization of German institutions, encourages German studies and the German language abroad, help developing countries in establishing effective universities, and advises decision makers on matters of education, culture, and development policy. This scholarship program was founded in 1925, around 2.6 million scholars in Germany and abroad have received DAAD funds.

Scholarship Description / Details

DAAD scholarships provide grants:

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be considered for this scholarship, applicants must be:

  • International applicants can apply from the developing countries
  • Applicants hold a Bachelor’s degree (4 years) in a related subject
  • Applicants have completed an academic degree with far above average results and at least two years of related professional experience.
  • Applicants who have his/her academic degrees should normally not be more than 6 years old
  • For language requirements:
  • For courses in English: IELTS (Band 6) certificate or TOEFL (minimum score: 550 paper based, 213 computer based, 80 internet based)
  • For courses in German: DSH 2 or TestDaF 4; at the time of application German skills at completed level A2 are required. German language courses at level A2 or B1 are highly recommended.

Note: It is not possible to pass the required German language courses (DSH or TestDaF) without any previous basic knowledge in the German language (at least A.2.1 Level), even with the preceding six-month, intensive course in Germany. Passing the language test is a formal prerequisite for graduating from a German university.

Procedure of Selection

Applicants are selected based on the quality of the project and their academic achievements. Applications of scholarship are reconsidered by voluntary and an independent selection committee (local and/ or German university researchers, DAAD lectors, and university teachers). The decision of selection is built either by the local selection committee directly or by another independent committee of academics in Germany. DAAD staff is not allowed to vote in the selection procedure of scholarship.
