Difference between Human Eye and Camera

Human eye is the organ designed for vision. Its beautiful gift of Allah for human beings. Its external structure is so designed that it protects the eye from damage by any harmful substance (physical or chemical). Eye works on the principle of refraction and it forms image over retina and transmits it to the brain. Similarly, camera also forms image but it gives you a physical photograph in contrast to eye. Eye is quiet often compared with camera on the basis of function so the following article shows major difference between human eye and camera working rules, function and mechanism of action of human eye and camera.

Human Eye

Human eye is an organ which serves to form an image and gets it interpreted through brain. Its external covering is known as ‘cornea’ which reflects light. It also has got a lens deep inside which dilated and shrinks in response to light intensity. Light rays first fall on the cornea, pass through the lens and then converge on the retina where an inverted image is formed. But this inverted image is interpreted as a straight image in the brain. Human eye can suffer derangement’s due to dysfunction of lens, changes to sclera or cornea retinal rupture and optic nerve diseases.

Camera

A camera is a man made instrument used to capture image in a physical way which can be stored for later use. It is not only used to make images but also videos. The word camera is derived from ‘camera obscura’ whose meaning is ‘dark chamber’. Its foundation was based in fifth century by a philosopher in china namely ‘Mo Ti’ but the first ever photograph was made a using a camera who was made up of wooden material in 1826. There are two types of camera. First is traditional one which uses a film to make image over it. Second is digital which uses electronic sensor for image formation and stores images on computer chip or high memory cards.

Human Eye VS Camera

The human eye and camera both processes the light and do image recording both with different working providing same kind of functionality. Human eye processes light and directly sends signals to brain, on the other hand, camera used light to record images on chip, memory card or film.

Outer cover:

Human eye’s outer cover is cornea.

Camera has an outer covering of lens.

Function of cover:

Cornea not only protects light but also causes light rays entering through it to bend.

Camera covering is only protective in nature.

Pupil:

Human eye has pupil which is a pinholes through which light enters lens.

Camera has a hole through which light enters lens.

Location of Lens:

Human eye has a lens which is located very deep in the structure of eye.

Camera lens is visible just in front of the device.

Focusing of Lens:

Human eye has an internal automatic focusing quality maintained through ciliary muscles.

Camera lens is adjusted by its photographer.

Resolution:

Human eyes lens resolution is approximately 52 mega pixels.

Cameras have resolution of 2 to a maximum 20 mega pixel resolution.

Retina:

Human eye forms image over the retina which is the deepest layer and image is saved in brain neurons.

Camera lens forms image over a film or saves it in memory card.

Stereoscopic Vision:

Stereoscopic vision of human eyes captures 3D images as well.

Camera is only able to capture 2D images so far.

Conclusion: Human eye and camera have similar functions but different structure and modality of working. And as the technology is growing rapidly so the function of human eye can be replaced by camera. After reading this difference between Human Eye and Camera what is your opinion in this regard?
