Biography of Frank Augustus Seiberling

Early Life

Frank Augustus Seiberling founder of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company was born in Western Star, Ohio a community which is at a distance of few miles from Akron, in Summit County of Ohio, on 6th October, 1859. He got education from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio. He studied there for two years.

Early Career

He worked at his father’s farm of manufacturing machinery products. He worked there as his father’s secretary and treasurer of the farm. His father was the founder of machine manufacturing company named Akron Company. His father also invented the first reaping machine of that time. During his stay at this father’s company he founded a thread binder which worked by attaching grain bundles with bow knot.

Founder of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company

In 1980s so many business were failed due to bad conditions of the economy. In those businesses his father’s business was also there. As his father’s company failed, this incident left him jobless. In 1898, he was about forty years of age, and having a family of a wife and three children, searching for the source of income.

Then he turned his mind towards a land which he purchased earlier. It was an old factory of strawboard. He decided for operating any sort of business form that building. Then he thought of starting business in rubber. He also decided a name for that company as Charles Goodyear, that name was taken from a person’s name that was the discoverer of vulcanization and died almost forty years before that year. That person was very generous person and died without any penny with his name.

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company

Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company is an American multinational company in the field of tire and rubber manufacturer. It is based in Akron, Ohio. This company manufactures tires of automobiles, light trucks, commercial trucks, race cars, and airplanes. It is also a manufacturer of heavy earth-mover machines and farm equipment.

As mentioned earlier that its name was taken from name of the inventor of vulcanized rubber. Goodyear tires became popular due to its capability of detachment and less requirement for maintenance, ultimately they are very cost efficient.

It also became popular due to its unique way of advertising. This company used Goodyear Blimp for the first time in the world. They started to fly their first Goodyear Blimp in 1925. Now it has become the most common type of advertising. It also provided tires to Formula One cars and this supplement is the most successful campaign of this company. Moreover it is the only supplier of tires for NASCAR series.

Later Years

In 1921 the fate of Goodyear Tire Company was totally changed as he and his brother left the company. After leaving that company both brothers started a new rubber company named Seiberling Rubber Company in Barberton, Ohio. He was very famous for his fair treatment with workers and due to this he was included as a hall of famer in the Tire Industry Hall of Fame in 1985.

Death

He died in the month of August of year 1955. His body is buried in a graveyard of Akron, Ohio, named as Glendale Cemetery. Throughout his life he donated so many amounts for the welfare of orphans.
