MCAT 2015 Difference

Have you heard about a new explosion that MCAT is changing? Yes! It’s not a rumor rather it’s a fact. MCAT is undergoing its biggest change since its inception. Today, medical schools are focusing on the drift to enhance the skills of doctors. They are modifying their curricula to train the doctors in a way to apply their know-how rather to recite it only.

AAMC Long-term Planning

AAMC has focused on numerous things to work upon. What medical has needed and what the future generation is going to know in 2015. With this resolution, they have designed the underlying content.

Content Changing

In the span of 2015, AAMC will add a new section which is named as ‘Psychological, Social and Biological Foundations of Behavior’.Now, what it will evaluate:

  • It will mainly assess the ability to understand the socio-cultural, biological and psychological influences on human behavior.
  • Aggregative focus has applied on human behavior and personality development.
  • In Biological sciences section, it is going to put emphasis on biochemistry. It will be further entitled as “Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems”.
  • Regarding the content, it will cover biochemistry content more related to the first semester bio chemistry courses.

Test is getting Longer- A New Prospect

In MCAT test, there are 5 sections in total. All sections will increase in time and number of questions as well. With the increment of new sections, it will raise the time for the MCAT test from 5 hours and 10 minutes to 7 hours and 30 minutes.

New Scoring Criteria

Considering 2015’s scoring criteria, each individual section on the exam will be scored using a 118 to 132 range. The median score is to be 125. A candidate will receive a score for each section along with an overall score. In MCAT, the total score will be centered at 500 that mainly ranges from 472 to 528.

New Queries and Skills

MCAT of 2015 mainly focuses on two additional skills that are as under:

  • Research Design focuses on basics of research design, proposal, correlational analysis, variable relationships.
  • Graphic Analysis and Data Interpretationfocuses on deriving conclusions and drawing inferences from visual data.

Slight change in Verbal Reasoning

In MCAT 2015, the section will be called as “Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills” or CARS. It will mainly focus on Humanities and Social Science passages. Mainly, it will include 53 items with completion time of 90 minutes. The passages will be between 500 to 600 words.

Fee Criteria

MCAT 2015 cost will be $300 as the test is longer and numbers of questions are added in it.

Testing Dates

Testing will get started from April to September and there will be 14 administration dates.

New MCAT is more medical

A new vision to take medicine as a practical entity not as a learning entity only. Passages will be resurrected to test the biological systems mainly physiology and pathology.
