Biography of Jujiro Matsuda

Early Life

Jujiro Matsuda founder of Mazda Motor was born on 8th August, 1875 in Hiroshima. His father was a fisherman. He belonged to a poor class family. He was not interested in study and his poor condition further compelled him to not to study in any educational institute.

Early Career

At the very early age he went to a blacksmith and worked with him in Osaka. Along with work he also became an apprentice. At that time he was fourteen years of age. At the same age, while working there he also invented a pump named, “Matsuda type pump”. He invented that in 1906. After sometime he worked hard there and became able to take over its operations. He took over all the management work of the foundry where he got training. He also changed the name of that blacksmith’s shop. He renamed it to Matsuda Pump Partnership.

He was compelled to leave that company and after leaving that company he again opened another manufacturing company. This time he opened a guard manufacturing company. He named it as Matsuda Works. His company’s reputation increased and he got a golden opportunity for raising its reputation further as he got a chance to work as a supplier to the Tsar of Russia. He also manufactured a riffle for the military of Japan and named it as the Type 99 rifle.

Founder of Mazda Motor

After his successive works he became a wealthy person by the end of 1921. After becoming a business tycoon he went back to Hiroshima to try his luck over there. He was given a challenge there as he was given the management of a company which was at back foot in those days. That was a cork manufacturing company named Toyo Cork Kogyo Co., Ltd. When he came into the managing team of that company he stopped the manufacturing of cork which was dried in the market and diverted his attention on the formation of tools.

By 1931 he introduced a new division of motorized tricycle manufacturing named as Mazdago. This company was later on known as the Mazda Motor. He continued to work for the progress of the company Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd. He changed that company into an automobile and vehicle manufacturing company which was named as same until his life but after him, his family changed its name from Toyo Kogyo to Mazda Motor.

His company also gone through difficult times of wars, in the Second World War, company was almost destroyed because of the bombing on Hiroshima but it recovered and progressed again.

Mazda Motor

Mazda Motor is a multinational company of Japan in the field of automobile and vehicles manufacturing. It’s headquarter is based in Fuchu, Aki District, Hiroshima Prefecture in Japan.

By 2007 its sales in terms of quantity of vehicles exceeded 1.3 million over the entire globe. From this total amount of the vehicles almost one million were manufactured in Japanese plant while other remaining cars were produced in different plants located in different areas of the world.

In terms of production this company was ranked number fifteen throughout the globe in the survey of 2011.

Death

He died on 27th March, 1952. In the return of his contributions in the field of automobile industry of Hiroshima Prefecture, a statue of his personality was made at the Minami-ku Park. It was created in 1965 with the order of Onomichi, Hiroshima and its creator and sculptor was Katsuzou Entsuba.

He is regarded as the main force behind the rise of Hiroshima’s automobile industry after the bombing of WW II.
