Early Life

Marry Anderson inventor of Windscreen Wiper was a lady inventor who is known for her invention of Windscreen Wiper. She was born in the year of 1866 in the United States of America’s state Alabama in Greene County. There is not much information present through any reliable source for her initial life because she is not any famous inventor. She was 23 years old, when she migrated to another city of state Alabama which is known as Birmingham. She moved with her sister and her mother who was a widow.

Career

As nothing is known about her education either in early childhood or later on, but most prominent thing of her personality was that she started her career in a young age. Being a girl, to start a career was not an easy task in the 19th century but she started it as a real estate developer. Her first project was Fairmont apartments which were located in Highline Avenue and she built these apartments soon after her migration. Some years later, she moved to the Fresno which is located in California and there she lived till the year of 1898.

In Fresno n California, she worked and ran a vineyard and cattle ranch at that time. As her life settled down in next few years, once she visited the New York City in the year of 1903. That was a rainy day and she had to get down from the car many times to clear the rain drops from windscreen because the view from the screen was getting fader after every 2 or 3 minutes. Soon after returning to her home, she hired a designer and asked him to design a hand driven windscreen wiper. After successfully making a design, she applied it practically and applied for its patent and in the same year she was awarded its rights.

You may have never thought about a windscreen wiper and may never have considered it as any important thing. But the point to ponder is that, before the invention of these wipers, it was very difficult to travel in rainy seasons and driver had to get down after every sometime to clean the windscreen. This invention changed the dimension of windscreen and its credit is for no one other than Mary Anderson. Windscreen Wiper is a pair of specially designed wipers which are fixed on the outside of a windscreen of a car. The function of windscreen wipers is to clean water droplets and sometimes the dust from the surface of the windscreen. Now a day, these wipers are automatically and work on battery of the vehicle. It is normally made up from a soft material from inner side so that, it may not leave any scratch on the surface of the screen.

Death

He died in year of 1953 on in the age of 87 years.
