Biography of Mian Muhammad Latif

Early Life

Mian Muhammad Latif founder of Chenab Group was born in Toba Tek Singh on 28th August, 1952. He belongs to an industrialist family. His father named Haji Muhammad Saleem was an industrialist of cotton and also an entrepreneur. For the purpose of getting education he moved out to Faisalabad. He completed his graduation in 1974.

Founder of Chenab Group

After his graduation he started his own business of textiles by setting up a small textile processing unit in Faisalabad. That small textile unit grew as years passed and turned into an empire of textile industries which is today known as the Chenab Group.

This great textile empire didn’t build in a year or two but it took a great part of his life. He integrated that small processing unit in proceeding years vertically and result was that big textile empire.

While the most important brand of his Chenab Group was the concept of clothing stores with the name of ChenOne. ChenONe is the chain of clothing stores located in different areas of the country Pakistan. That concept was initially started in 1997 by him. These sorts of stores were not introduced in the Pakistan and he was the first person to do so. Now ChenOne is a very well reputed and well-known brand in the field of clothing industries of Pakistan and it is also famous throughout the different countries of the world.

Chenab Group

Chenab Group is a company of Pakistan in the field of textiles. It is basically a conglomerate which is engaged in manufacturing of fabric products and also renowned as the largest exporter of homemade textile products from the country Pakistan to different parts of the world.

In historical point of view it was initiated through a small textile processing unit in Faisalabad while in 1974 it was converted into Chenab Fabrics and Processing Mills Limited and after some year it was turned into a textile empire with the name of Chenab Limited and now Chenab Group.

As an Influential Family

On 23rd March in the year of 2004, he was awarded with the civil award of Pakistan, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the President of that time General Pervez Musharraf in return of his services to the industrial sector of Pakistan.

Throughout his life, he belonged to an influential family. He himself was engaged in close friendship with many politicians of Pakistan like President Musharraf, Benazir Bhutto, Yousif Raza Gillani and Shaukat Aziz. In fact his younger brother also remained as a politician. His younger brother is Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq, who remained an influential politician of Toba Tek Singh. His son was also included in the list of MNAs from the part of PML-Q in tenure of 2002-2008, his son’s name is Mian Farhan Latif.

For many years from 1998 to 2002 he was awarded a gold medal as the Businessman of the Year from the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI). He was given that honor because of his services in investment, trading, and industrial growth in those years.

Present Life

He is now a resident of the city of Faisalabad, Pakistan. He is still the member of board of directors of the Chenab Group and working as the Chairman of the Chenab Group and also store chain of ChenOne. He is considered as one of the richest persons of Pakistan with the net worth of $700 Million United State Dollars. That net worth is taken from the data of 2009. He has four sons and all of them are designated on prestigious seats in different sectors of the economy.
