The Nagao Natural Environment Foundation (NEF) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting nature conservation in developing countries.The  Nagao Natural Environment Foundation Research Grants  provide financially support academic and scientific research that will depend knowledge of the nature conservation in developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The aim of this institution is of increase research capacity of young researchers in that region. These grants are available only for individual researchers, but not for group to enhance their skills, knowledge, and experience through their own research work.

Awards Description

The Nagao Natural Environment Foundation awards provide many benefits for the researchers:

Eligible expenses:

  • Expendables necessary for field survey and analysis
  • Local travel expenses for fieldtrip
  • Reference materials e.g., article, books etc
  • Limited wages and labor costs necessary for proposed research
  • Other expenses only when the NEF Secretariat approved.
  • The maximum grant size in this research project is 500,000.

Ineligible expenses:

  • Salaries and tuition paid to applicants, assistant and other people to be involved in research;
  • Equipment and installation of institution’s facilities e.g., Personal computer, microscope, projector, printer, digital camera etc.
  • Consultation fees, and travel expenses paid to advisors and experts;
  • Participation fees to attend national and international workshop, conferences, and trainings;
  • International travel expenses;
  • General administrative expenses and overheads;

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be considered for this research project, applicants must fulfill some criteria:

  • Applicants must be a national developing country in the Asia-Pacific region;
  • Applicants must be a researcher/scientist, who work full time in a doctoral course, conducting research at a research institution.
  • Applicants must be able to communicate in English;
  • A proposed research project must be carried out in the applicant’s country;
  • Applicants must be scientific research contributing to the nature conservation of the applicant’s country;
  • Applicants must involve fieldwork for collecting data;
  • Applicants must be applicant’s own research work.
