Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) Program for National and International Students 2021 / 2022

The Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) Program recognizes academic excellence in graduate studies at the master’s and doctoral levels in all disciplines of academic study. The OGS program at University of Guelph is jointly funded by the Province of Ontario and the University of Guelph. The Province of Ontario contributes two-thirds of the value of the award and the university provides one-third.

Number of Scholarships

Approximately 139 scholarships are offered annually to the national / international students to study in master’s or PhD degree programs. The division of scholarships is as follows:

The University of Guelph scholarships awarded to

  • Domestic students (Canadian & Permanent Residents): 135
  • International students: 4

Duration of Scholarship

02 years for master’s and 04 years for PhD or Doctoral study program.

Typically students are awarded scholarships for one year (two or three semesters), but in exceptional circumstances may be awarded up to six semesters.

Scholarship Description / Details

Ontario Graduate scholarships (OGS) program for national and international students provide many grants for the applicants; these following grants are:

  • The OGS is valued at $5,000 per semester, and may be awarded for a minimum of three semesters and up to a maximum of six semesters.

Note: Applicants are not allowed to avail any other scholarship along with this scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be considered for Ontario Graduate scholarships (OGS) program for national and international students, applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be enrolled into a full-time eligible graduate program.
  • Have not exceeded the lifetime maximum of government-funded support or maximum OGS support available for their current level of study (see Maximum Support).
  • Applicant entering the first or second year of graduate studies at the time of the application deadline: must have achieved a first-class average, as determined by the host institution, in each of the last two completed years of study (full-time equivalent).
  • Applicant entering the third year or beyond of graduate studies at the time of the application deadline: must have an overall average of at least A- (or equivalent) on all graduate courses completed.
  • If marks used for calculating an applicant’s grade point average (GPA) are not available (e.g., courses were graded on a pass-fail basis), then the next most recent available undergraduate or graduate marks should be used to determine eligibility.

How to Apply / Download Scholarship Form / Documents Required

Applicants can apply for this scholarship, must follow some steps:

  • Students who wants to apply for OGS at the U of G must submit a hard copy of the complete application package to their proposed / current graduate department/school Graduate Program Assistant.
  • Mailed documents should be sent to the following address:

  • Application must be completed electronically; hand written forms will not be accepted.

Required Documents:

  • PDF Copy of OGS Application. Save a blank PDF copy to your computer first. This saved copy should be used to complete your application.
  • PDF Copy of Academic Assessment from Referees (2)
  • Original transcripts from all universities attended
  • There is no charge for University of Guelph transcripts for the OGS competition providing it is picked up in person and it is not a rush order.
