Biography of Robert Weinstein
Early Life
Robert Weinstein is an American movie maker and founder of “The Dimension Films” was born on 18th of October, 1954 in Flushing, New York. He got birth into a Jewish family and also grew in Jewish environment. His father Max Weinstein was a diamond cutter, and his mother was Miriam. He rose in the family with his elder brother Harvey Weinstein. They lived in a housing corporation with the name “Electchester” in the city of New York.
Early Career
After his graduation from college he worked with his older brother Harvey Weinstein. Their job was arranging and producing the concerts of rock music. They were running this business with the name of Harvey and Corky Productions in Buffalo. They went on to run this business trough out the years of 1970s.
Interest in Film Making
These both brothers were very much passionate about film producing and wanted to start making films. But for this purpose they needed handsome amount of investment. They worked hard in their concert business and earned a lot of profits. They used those profits in the formation of a small company for film distribution. That company was called as Miramax. The name Miramax was taken from their parents name Miriam and Max. This company was formed in very late 1970s, when their rock concert business was at boom.
Founder of Dimension Films and Weinstein Company
First presentation of this newly born Miramax was a music based film. In 80s of 20th century, it got the rights of two British films. They also worked with Martin Lewis who was a well-known film producer of that time. They got an opportunity for mixing two films into one movie “The Secret Policeman’s Other Ball”. That was Miramax’s first hit film.
Year after year, company was growing, gaining name and fame throughout the country. A number of movies were released under their belt. But in 1993, they sold the ownership of Miramax to Walt Disney with condition of being its head after deal. They sold it for $60 million. Then Miramax came under the umbrella of Disney and for many years it produced so many blockbuster movies.
This agreement lasted until 29th March, 2005 when Weinstein again separated from Disney and formed The Weinstein Company, production house. Until the formation of Weinstein Company, all the work was combine effort of both brothers.
While in Disney’s ownership Robert Weinstein also formed a film distribution and production house solely owned by him but worked under Miramax. That production house was “Dimension Films”. Dimension Films also got separated from the Walt Disney Studios in 2005.
Dimension Films
Dimension Films Company is the main American film producing and distribution house. This company produced movies of different genres like, comedy, horror, action, and suspense type of movies in early 90s.
Life’s Ups and Downs
He was known as Robert Bob Weinstein. He was married for two times in his life. From first marriage he has two daughters and from second marriage he has one boy and a girl.
