Biography of Sunil Bharti Mittal

Sunil Bharti Mittal was basically an Indian businessman and an entrepreneur. He has gained so much fame due to the Bharti Enterprise as he is the Chairman of that firm. And that firm is a multitasking firm who has contributed in many fields including almost all the items.

Early Life

Sunil Bharti Mittal founder of BhartiAirtel Limited was born in Punjab, India on 23rd October, 1957. He belonged to the Aggarwal family of Punjab. His father’s name was Sat Paul Mittal. His father remained the parliament member of Indian National Congress (RajyaSabha), from the area of Punjab. His father was a well-known politician of Punjab, India. He got his early education from the Wynberg Allen School of Mussoorie but before soon he shifted in Scindia School in Gwalior. He lived his university life in two institutes, Punjab University and Arya College, Ludhiana. He pursued his bachelor degree in the field of Arts and Science in 1976 from Chandigarh’s Punjab University. In 1992, his father died because of a cardiac arrest.

Business Career

He entered into the field of business at the early age of just 18 years. He borrowed money worth of twenty thousand Indian rupees from his father and started his first business in the month of April in 1976. He started making crankshafts for the local manufacturers of bicycle. After several years of that business he sold it out in 1980 and with the coordination of his two brothers Rajan and Rakesh he initiated an Import Enterprise which was named as Bharti Overseas Trading Company. After selling his previous business of bicycle parts he moved out to Mumbai for doing something different.

He turned his attention to imports and gained importing license in 1981 from companies of export in Punjab. After getting that license he imported so many electric power generators from Suzuki Motors Company of Japan. But soon, the importing of those generators was banned by Indian Government in order to increase the local production and two companies were given the license for producing such sort of electric generators.

Entry in Technology and Mobile Field

He entered into the field of mobiles in 1984 by importing related products from Taiwan. After several years Bharti Telecom Limited (BTL) and mobile products manufacturing further increased afterwards.

His business in mobile technology increased and he recognize the importance and potential of cellular company in the market of India so firstly he made contracts with the electronic company of Germany Siemens AG and in 1992 he won the bid in an auction and acquired the license for a cellular network company in India. That company was later on named as the BhartiAirtel Limited or simply as Airtel.

BhartiAirtel Limited is a multinational company of India in the field of telecommunication services. It’s headquarter is located in New Delhi, India. Apart from the local country India there are so many other countries throughout the world in which this company is being operated. Other countries of the world involved some countries of South Asia, Channel Islands and some countries of Africa. In terms of ranking it is world’s number fourth largest country in terms of number of subscribers in July 2013. In India it is the largest cellular company.

Later Life

He is now taking interest in developing his company as much as possible; in 2012 he was engaged in talks with Wal-Mart for developing retail stores throughout India. He is also the founder of a charity trust named Bharti Foundation.
