Swedish Institute Scholarships for International students 2021 / 2022

The Swedish Institute is offering many scholarships for international students who want to pursue their master’s degree in Sweden. These scholarships are focusing on intellectual international students who want to earn a master’s degree from a well ranked university and under well qualified faculty. The students will have to take a full-time study at different Swedish universities which will start in autumn. The main objective of these scholarships is to enrich the relations of Sweden with international developing countries.

Number of Scholarships

Approximately 300 scholarships are offered annually for the international students to study in Master programs.

Duration of Scholarship

Full-time 01 year or 02 years master’s programmes.

Scholarships are awarded for programs that start in autumn semester (September). Applicants will be granted with full time scholarship for one year (2 semesters), the grant will be extended for programs longer than 1 year based on applicant’s performance.

Scholarship Description / Details

Swedish Institute scholarships provide many grants for the applicants, these following grants are:

  • Full tuition fees (which is paid directly to the Swedish university / university college by the Swedish Institute).
  • SEK 10,000 per month (Living expense).
  • One-time Travel grant of SEK 10,000 for the students of Armenia; Azerbaijan; Belarus; Georgia; Moldova; Russian Federation; Turkey or Ukraine and Travel grant of SEK 15,000 for the students of  Bangladesh; Bolivia; Brazil; Cambodia; Cameroon; Colombia; Ecuador; Egypt; Ethiopia; Gambia; Ghana; Guatemala; Honduras; Indonesia; Jordan; Kenya; Liberia; Malawi; Morocco; Myanmar (Burma); Nepal; Nigeria; Pakistan; Peru; Philippines; Rwanda; Sri Lanka; Sudan; Tanzania; Tunisia; Uganda; Vietnam; Zambia;  (not applicable for students already living in Sweden).
  • Medical Insurance.
  • Membership of the SI Network for Future Global Leaders (a platform to help students grow professionally).
  • Membership of the SI Alumni Network.

Scholarship does not cover:

  • Additional grants for family members.
  • Application fee for University admission.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be considered for Swedish Institute scholarships, applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Applicant should be from one of the above-mentioned countries with a valid passport.
  • Applicants must be able to pay the university fees and get admitted by 9th April 2021 to apply for this scholarship.
  • Applicant should possess strong English skills with any English proficiency course attended.
  • There is no age limit for scholarship holders.
  • Applicants must have 3,000 hours of demonstrated full-time or part-time employment or work experience from at least 3 different organizations.
  • Applicants should be able to demonstrate their leadership experience from your current or previous employment or civil society.

Ineligible applicants, who:

  • Has already lived in Sweden for two years or more years before the scholarship period.
  • Has a Swedish or EU/EEA-citizenship, permanent residence permit or a work permit in Sweden.
  • Has previously been awarded a Swedish Institute scholarship for master’s level studies or research at a Swedish university / university college.
  • Already holds a degree from a Swedish university / university college.
  • Is currently enrolled in a study program at a Swedish university / university college.

How to Apply / Download Scholarship Form / Documents Required

Applicants can apply for this scholarship, must follow some steps:

  • Applicants need to apply for master’s degree of their choice at universityadmissions.se, between October 15, 2020 to January 15, 2021.
  • Apply for the Swedish Institute scholarships during 8 February -18 February, 2021. Applications for scholarship will be open in February 2021.
  • Attach all necessary documents with application form.

  • 2 valid and complete reference letters
  • Proof of work and leadership experience
  • Copy of passport

The application will be rejected in case of any missing documents. Forms and templates for these required documents can be download from here.

There are two ways to calculate employment hours by the formula given here. Only working hours prior to 9 February 2021 would be considered.

Note: Applicants can apply for multiple master’s degree programs and need to submit scholarship application separately for each program.
