Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Program for International Students 2021 / 2022

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Program was launched in 2013 by the Hungarian Government. The core mission of the program is to increase the number of foreign students in Hungary and to encourage Hungarian higher education institutions to attract top foreign students. Currently 70 sending partners are engaged in the program throughout 5 different continents. The application call for year 2019/2020 is now open.

Scholarships Description / Details

Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Program provides many grants for the applicants, these following grants are:

  • Tuition fees
  • Monthly stipend of HUF 40,460 for bachelors and masters; and HUF 140,000 for doctoral programs.
  • Provides dormitory place or a contribution of HUF 40,000/month for accommodation.
  • Medical insurance: Health care services according to the relevant Hungarian legislation (Act No. 80 of 1997, national health insurance card) and supplementary medical insurance, medical insurance for up to HUF 65000 (cca EUR 205) a year/person.
  • Covers student costs only, family members are not supported.

Note: These grants are only a contribution to the applicants living expenses in Hungary, the applicants will need to add their own financial resources to cover all the expenses.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to be considered for Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Program, applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Applicants must have citizenship and residency of one of the eligible countries. Hungarian citizens can’t apply for this scholarship.
  • Applicants must be above 18 years old when applying for the scholarship.
  • Candidates must have excellent school record / achievements.
  • Applicant should not be a current holder of Stipendium hungaricum scholarship.
  • Study programs in English language: students shall have a level of English proficiency required by the host institution.
  • Study programs in Hungarian language: students shall participate in a one-year preparatory Hungarian language course before starting their higher education studies. In addition to the Hungarian language, subjects related to the chosen field of studies will also be taught in Hungarian.

  • A copy of high school / college diploma and transcript/report of study or copy of the diploma attachment
  • A copy of certificate of proficiency in English
  • Copies of relevant pages of passport showing expiration date, passport number and identification
  • 2 letters of recommendation (for Doctoral program)
  • Research Plan (for Doctoral program)
  • Motivation Letter
  • Health Certificate issued by Medical Doctor
  • Portfolio
