UNESCO / Government of the People’s Republic of China Scholarships 2021

UNESCO / Government of the People’s Republic of China is offering scholarships for international applicants from Africa, Asia and Pacific, Arab States, Latin America, and the Caribean and Europe and North America (developing countries) students. These scholarships are offered to those scholars who intend to undertake individual research or pursue advanced studies for one year from an assigned supervisor in China. Most of the study programs will be conducted in English, but in some cases, candidates may be required to learn the Chinese language before studying in their fields of interest or taking up research. Those candidates who are selected must undertake their studies in the host universities as visiting scholars. The aim of this scholarship is to benefit of developing Member States in Africa, Asia- Pacific, Latin America, Europe and Arab region.

Field of Study / Subject

Scholarships are awarded in the fields of undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the selected Chinese universities.

Other latest Scholarships in China are also offered for different degrees and subjects all over China.

Number of Scholarships

Total seventy five (75) scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate levels study. Out of which twenty five (25) scholarships are especially for candidatures from the Teacher Training Institutions which is supported by UNESCO-CFIT Project in the 10 African countries to pursue an Advanced Training Program for Education Administrators and Teacher Educators at East China Normal University.

Duration of Scholarship

The duration of the scholarship is one academic year, but it renews it for 2nd year.

LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBEAN – 26 Member States

Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Venezuela.

EUROPE AND NORTH AMERICA – 12 Member States

Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Serbia, Ukraine.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for these scholarships, you must fulfill the following conditions:

  • Applicants must be under the age of 45 years and have completed at least two years of undergraduate study
  • For postgraduate scholarships must have a master’s degree or an associate professor and under the age of 50
  • Must have English language proficiency
  • Be in good health, both mentally and physically.

The Process of Application

First of all, get in touch with the National Commission for UNESCO of your country to request information about the application procedures at the national level. Then according to the requirements advised in ANNEX II, arrange your application documents in English or Chinese language. After that submit your application to the National Commission for UNESCO of your country. When you are informed that you are nominated as a candidate for this programme by the National Commission for UNESCO of your country, you should complete the online application and also submit all the supporting documents on the online application system of the China Scholarship Council. After that copies of China Scholarship Council online Application Forms, letters of nomination, and photocopies of valid ordinary passports should be submitted by UNESCO by National Commissions by 25 March 2020.
