Scuola Normale Superiore Scholarships 2025
Scuola Normale Superiore offers PhD scholarships to both Italian and non-Italian students. These grants are available to people who wish to complete their PhD degree program at Italian universities in Italy. These scholarships are offered on merit and academic bases for national and international applicants in Italy. This scholarship pays for tuition as well as a grant for housing and board. Every student will be eligible for extra money for their research, even if it takes place elsewhere.
PhD scholarships at the Scuola Normale Superiore are offered to students who maintain high academic standards and make considerable progress on their thesis. Candidates who have earned a valid qualification for entry into the competition at international universities are given preference for each postgraduate course. Every student, even those studying overseas, will get extra money for their research.

Scuola Normale Superiore provides:
- Full financial support for PhD Program

Eligibility Criteria
Faculty of Chemistry, Sciences and Faculty of Political and Social Sciences
- Applicants must hold a master’s degree or comparable non-Italian credential within five years of the first call for admission to the Ph.D. courses of the Faculty of Sciences’ 40° cycle, which begins on June 24, 2025.
- Those completing a master’s degree in Italy or a comparable degree from a non-Italian university by October 31, 2025.
- Do not have a Ph.D. degree from an Italian or international university, and have not earned a scholarship to study in Italy.
- Have not lived in the recruiting beneficiary’s country or engaged in their major activity (work, education) for more than 12 months in the 36 months before recruitment date (November 1, 2021–November 1, 2025).
Faculty of Humanities
Regardless of citizenship, the following persons are eligible to apply:
- Those pursuing a master’s degree in Italy or an equivalent degree from a non-Italian university by October 31, 2025;
- Those with a master’s degree or comparable non-Italian qualification conferred within five years of the call’s deadline.
- Interviews and academic evaluations of applicants will determine admission to PhD programs.

To apply for a laurea magistrale (MA/MS) degree or overseas equivalent, applicants must provide a valid copy of their identity document, including a copy of their passport with a photograph, personal details, passport number, and date of issue. - Additionally, a curriculum vitae (CV) and an abstract in English are required.
- Provide a diploma supplement or equivalent document detailing achievement exams and degree grades.
- Copies of any publications
- Candidates must submit a different research proposal.
- All documentation must be in English or Italian.
