A resume or CV is not about making anyone happy by offering them compliments or assistance. 1.     Salary

 Always avoid using the word salary and your salary demands, as it will spoil your whole CV/resume and its effectiveness.

• It might create an impression of unprofessionalism.

• People to whom you are sending your CV know more about their packages and demand as compared to you.
• It also shows your lack of interest in the particular job or work.

2.     Objective

Banish the use of the word objective in your resume.

• Try to use the word career
• Objectives show that you are only trying to get the job because of no other option.
• It shows you lack particular interest in the job.
• Your first aim is to get that specific job.

3.     Responsible For

 Adding the word responsible for seems quite unprofessional and untidy.

• These are weak verbs giving the impression that you are hardly fulfilling the job requirements.
• You are not supposed to tell the recruiter what are you responsible for.
• They know better and will hire you based on your skills and expertise.
• Instead you can use the words, led, manage etc.

4.     Experience

Experience shows that you faced something in the past. So,

• Avoid using word experience.
• Always write about your experience by using word achievements and success.
• As positive action words like success and achievement add volume and quality to your writing.

5.     Other/ Extra Skills

• Always try to use the word other achievements instead of using other skills, or problem-solving capabilities.
• It also shows your courageous and talented personality.
• Moreover, it shows that you are passionate about your future and work.

6.     Hardworking

 Never use the term hardworking as it shows that you are trying to impose this reality on others.

• It is obvious for some reasons that the people who hire employees have an eye for hardworking people
• They can easily pick one out of a crowd.
• Calling yourself as hardworking is subjective.
• It doesn’t reflect your abilities and aptitudes.

7.    Extra Information

Writing extra information is not required in a CV or resume.

• If they appoint you, then they will definitely ask you more details about your qualifications or about yourself. So, there is no need to consume the precious space of your resume with these words.
• It creates a clutter in the resume resulting in distractions and loss of focus from the main point which is qualification and skills.

8. Player of Particular Team

It is important to write about your extra skills but do not mention that you were a player of a team or you were captain.

• It looks awkward in a resume so be careful about it.
• it’s not necessary to mention any team with which you have worked.
• Few organizations do not like to work in a team-based environment. So be very careful about these basics.

9.     Reference

 Don’t use the phars reference available on request in your resume as

• it is not a very professional way.
• It doesn’t make your resume more valuable.
• Everybody knows that upon demand, you definitely provide them with the references
• Instead incorporate testimonials and performance appraisal quotes.

10.       Some Other Substitutes

There are some other substitutes of words that can devalue your resume. Some of these are:

If you are talking about your achievements, then always use I instead of We.

·         Use personal or ist person pronouns such as I instead of We.

• Instead of using the words, worked, handled, and helped, utilize supported, managed etc.
• Detail-oriented and proactive can be prevented.
