Biography of Bhogaraju Pattabhi Sitaramayya

Early Life

Bhogaraju Pattabhi Sitaramayya founder of Andhra Bank was born in a village named Gundugolanu, Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh, India on 24th December, 1880. He got his early education from the local schools of Andhra Pradesh. His ambition was to become a doctor and for that purpose he got education in Madras Christian College. He got the degree of a medical practitioner and done his M. B. C. M. degree from that institute.

Soon after completing his degree he started practicing it in Machilipatnam which is a coastal town in Krishna District. That area is also the political center of Andhra Pradesh. At that time so many movements were originating for getting freedom from the Britain. He also became the part of such type of freedom fight and left his doctor practice which was the source of his earning. He turned his focus towards motivating people for freedom fighting by writing articles which were written on the topic of need of separate province on the basis of linguistics. The article which became famous was “The Hindu”, in that article he wrote about the separation of Andhra province on the basis of linguistics.

As an Activist Politician

He remained very active in politics from his region. He demanded separate province in the session of the Congress which took place in Lucknow in 1916. Because of him the Andhra Congress Committee came into operations in 1918.

Founder of Andhra Bank

He changed his field of interest and founded Andhra Bank on 28th November 1923 in Machilipatnam. In the same field he also founded an insurance company with the name of Andhra Insurance Company.

Andhra Bank is a medium sized bank of India which is headquartered in Machilipatnam. It is involved in the financial services throughout the whole country of India.

Death

He died on 17th December, 1959.
