Early Life

Cornelius Vander Starr founder of American International Group, Incorporation was born on 15th October, 1892 in Fort Bragg, California, United States of America. His real name was Neil Starr. His parents were from Dutch and English Backgrounds. His father worked as a railroad engineer. He came into the field of business through his venture in selling of ice cream which he started selling at the age of nineteen years.

He also joined the U. S Army for several years and after leaving the army he joined the Pacific Mail Steamship Company of Yokohama, Japan as a clerk. After that he travelled to several countries for the job of insurance businesses.

Founder of American International Group

He founded a company in Shanghai with the name of AIG in 1919 which was abbreviated as American Asiatic Underwriters. This was renamed to American International Underwriters later on and after the shift of company in New York this was further renamed to American International Group.

There are three main businesses of the company through which it performs its operations, first business is AIG Property Casualty, second one is AIG Life and Retirement and third one is United Guarantee Corporation.
