DASFAA Review

International Conference on Databases Systems for Advanced Applications (DASFAA) is usually organized by different Asian countries. Here is DASFAA – Databases Systems for Advanced Applications Review.

Submission Date / Deadline: The deadline to submit research papers is usually October/November of a year before the conference is held. The decision is conveyed to submitters in more than 2 months and less than 3 months Days. The conference is usually held in April every year.

My Feelings:

1)      Well organized although not comparable to WWW, SIGKDD, SIGIR, ICML or other A level conferences.

2)      Focused presentation time.

3)      The conference was full of simple but innovative ideas. Solutions of most of the problems were detailed and intuitive but still needs further work to be done in some cases.

4)      Most of the young guys presented their papers as well as a few well know people of Database and Data Mining field.

5)      Some innovative questions were asked during the presentations which were very helpful for improving work.

6)      Useful discussion about Ideas, famous research personality, collaborations and research funding agencies  related things during tea and meal

7)      Authors were from more than 20 countries but most of them were Chinese either from China or from other countries. Does not seem to be world level but it was more like mixture of country and content level.

Acceptance Rate: DASFAA is highly competitive conference in the field of Databases and Data Mining. It is usually ranked as low B level or high C Level by scientific communities. Only less than 25% submissions have been accepted for publication usually. It is not easy to be accepted by this conference.

Accommodation: The hotels of very good quality near the conference venue were available in about  or 50 to 100 USD due to not very high rates of accommodation in Asian countries.

Keynote Speeches / Panel Discussion: Usually famous people in the field of databases and data mining are keynotes and panel discussion committee members. Though they may not be among the top of these fields.

Paper Publications: The proceedings of DASFAA are published by Springer-Verlag in Lecture Notes in Computer Science Series. Paper length was restricted to 15 pages of Springer LNCS style. A few selected papers were also considered for publication in Journals.

Structure: The main conference and several affiliated workshops of related areas.
