Difference between Acid Rain and Global Warming
Rain is a blessing of Allah, indeed. Rain falls in the form of water drops on the Earth that has unlimited benefits. It is beneficial for the survival of animals and plants as it provides water for every being. Its excess is harmful as it destroys plants and human resources in the form of a flood. If there is less rainfall, the crops would dry, cause drought-like situation and global warming.
In one way, rain is essential for sustaining life, but on the other way, it causes destruction in the form of acid rain. Let’s study in detail about acid rain and global warming.
Acid Rain: The word acid means ‘a substance having chemical properties,’ so acid rain means falling water drops having chemical elements like nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide. Sulfur dioxide comes from the power stations, and the burning of fuels, which adds into the air, causes acidic rain. It is considered to be the vulnerable rain, but it is not. The only difference lies in that its pH is below 7, generally lies between 4.2 and 4.4. Now, how it comes? When air pollution like sulfates all together mix up with water and form acid. It releases sulphuric acid and nitrogen oxide. They move in the air and causes the Acid Rain. Acid rain comes on the ground in the form of fog, snow, and little bits of dry material.
Global Warming: Global warming is different, it’s not rain but more likely pollution which kills arctic and aquatic life. It happens when the Earth gets too hot, and gases like carbon dioxide release in the atmosphere. Global warming is caused due to the depletion of the ozone layer. An ozone layer covers the Earth and saves it from the sun’s harmful radiations. But now, due to Chlorofluorocarbon (CFCs), the ozone layer is weakened. The depletion of the ozone layer is an alarming situation for us as it is the major cause of global warming. The other main reason is deforestation. Plants absorb carbon dioxide from the air and produce oxygen, but when they are cut off, carbon dioxide gas, along with other gases, causes global warming, hence a danger for human and animal life.
Global Warming: A root cause of Acid Rain; A controversial Debate:
Now, what is the root cause? Global warming is caused by greenhouse gases like water vapor, carbon dioxide, methanol, and others, etc. It is also the part of the sea; when Earth gets warm-up, oceans also get warm-up. In this way, when these gases mix with water, it produces acid rain. What are the different causes of global warming?
- Release of methane
- Climate change
- Extreme weather
- Deforestation
- Pollution
- Population
It becomes the root cause of acid rain because humans are the primary cause of spreading acid in which pollution plays a vital role.
What are the consequences of both tendencies?
Acid rain is disastrous as it affects the following aspects:
- It severely affects water because plankton gets removed from the water. Species and other animals can’t breathe in water like fish.
- Effects on materials like erosion of railways, stone material gets merged in dust and increases the acidity of soils.
Impacts of Global Warming and Acid Rain:
As mentioned earlier, acid rain increases the acidity of soil and streams. Due to the lower pH, the extraction of heavy metals is expected. Only due to this extraction, fish and other organisms die. Acid rain and acid fog mainly damage the surface of leaves and damage the growth of plants. Due to psycho toxicity, tree vitality and other plants get reduced rapidly. It is also a cause of damage to physical structures such as cars or limestone buildings. In the form of fog, it mainly affects the health of a person and causes problems like asthma, eye irritation, or skin allergy. On the other hand, global warming mainly hit the environment through pollution, which in turn extracts unsafe gases.
What’s at Risk? A global Fear!
After warming, the spreading of diseases is much expected. According to the scientist in some countries, malaria has simply not cured. It will endanger several species, and also, there will be the existence of 1 million species. And we humans can’t survive without species.
How to reduce acid rain and global warming?
To reduce global warming, we can act upon the following suggestions:
- To cease the usage of fossil fuels, mainly coal, oil, and natural gas.
- Develop new sources of electricity.
- Afforestation is essential rather than doing deforestation
There are many ways of reducing it, while at homes, they are:
- By turning off the lights in order to save electricity
- By keeping balance in hot and cold temperature
- Try to walk and use of cycling is good
- Avoid vehicles pollution
Let’s move on to the reduction of acid rains:
- Don’t burn gases (natural gas, carbon dioxide)
- Planting trees
- Usage of batteries
- Consider walking
- Educate others to plant trees
- Avoid transportation
- Stop using Led
Acid rain and global warming both are much harmful to life on Earth. By following the above possibilities, we can reduce acid rain and global warming, which will be otherwise much vulnerable in a future scenario. What are your suggestions related to acid rain and global warming, and how can we ensure a safe life on Earth?
