Difference between Belief and Faith
Difference between Belief and Faith

Have you ever heard about faith and belief as a mono notion? If you ever heard then it’s not a similar aspect to ponder. There is a huge difference between the two. In order to wipe out the muddle, here is a montage of difference between belief and faith.

What is belief?

It is an independent entity. Belief is an acceptance about someone or something’s existence. Adding more, it explains someone’s presence as truth.

What is faith?

Faith is a dependent entity that depends on belief. It is a trust in something or someone.

What is devotion?

Devotion refers to the love and loyalty for a person or activity. In religious terms, it refers to religious worship or observance.

Belief vs. Faith vs. Devotion

Contrary, belief is an entity which entails some sort of experiences to grasp. This is the major reason why our belief changes over a period of time. How is faith different then? Faith includes our beliefs, actions and confidence. It means if an individual doesn’t perform an action with a belief then he or she has no faith. It says when we believe the truth with confidence in order to take action it means we are exercising faith. Devotion is putting one’s complete involvement into something that one loves. Its result is absolute clarity. Devotion means ‘faith in action’. It is absolute dedication to a thing or idea.

Scientific view

Belief refers to a statement or idea of pre-understanding that can be verified using a scientific method. Thus, a belief can be proven true or false. Belief includes the formation of a hypothesis on the basis of already existing knowledge. This hypothesis can be tested scientifically.

Faith can’t be tested. It can be called as ‘irrational belief’ i.e. belief without reason. It claims knowledge of the unknowable.

Explanation with examples

Belief can be tested. It relies on knowledge that can be tested scientifically. For instance, Newton believed in the existence of gravity. He made a hypothesis in this regard and proved it to be true.

Faith is irrational belief. It is a strong trust in something. For instance, faith in God is belief without reason. One can’t test the result of faith. The outcomes of any activity based on faith may or may not be completely a result of the faith. There can be other factors at play also.

Devotion is a tough practice. For example, devotion to God implies ardent affection for Him. It demands surrendering one’s heart to God with reverence, faith and piety in every action one does.

Concept of faith and belief in multiple sects

  • According to Christianity (Bible), “if I BELIEVE, I am exercising Faith”. It indicates an individual has to believe in order to keep faith.
  • In Islam, Thereby, the soul is relying on actions. Belief is the submission of soul to ALLAH and Faith is to have confidence in his blessings. An individual must have belief in actions to keep faith.
  • In Hinduism, Belief and Faith are closely linked with GOD. If an individual belief in GOD, GOD will protect him.

Mould your unbelief into belief, build your faith:

Unbelief makes an individual more selfish and inhumane. In order to spend a good life, follow a belief, Here the problem is belief not faith because if belief is nearby, faith will originate. The more a human will explore his mind, the more he will get persuaded by truth. Now how to ensure?

  • The paramount way to transcend reality is to read Bible (or any holy book you eventually get inspired by).
  • The more you hunt, the more you learn.
  • Approach scholars to wipe out the confusion.
  • Do you want more faith? Start believing today! Read, study and think about a Holy Book either it’s Holy Quran, Torah or Bible.

Conclusion

Summing up, belief being an independent notion welcomes a being to grab it. The more firmly an individual convinced of the truth, he will acquire more faith and confidence. Devotion is a great virtue to hold. But it is the toughest thing to do also, because it expects an individual to devote his entire being and energy in his faith. If practiced diligently, devotion can be as powerful as to move mountains.Do you agree with us?
