Biography of Giovanni Agnelli

Early Life

Giovanni Agnelli Founder of Fiat S.p.A. was born on 13^th August, 1866 in Villar Perosa, a small town located near Pinerolo, Piedmont, Italy. That place is still known for the burial place of his family, means the Agnelli family. He was born to Edoardo Agnelli and Aniceta Frisetti. His father was the mayor of the town in which he was born. His father died at the age of forty years. At that time he was just a child of 5 years of age.

Education and Military Service

He got his early education from Military School of Modena in 1886. After completing his high school education from that school of Modena he got admission in the Collegio San Giuseppe, Turin, Italy. He lived his university life in that university. After completing his education he also went to the Italian Army for giving compulsory services. He earned his military carrier in 1893. After completing his services in the Italian Military he returned back to his home at Villar Perosa.

Family Tradition

When he came back to his home, he also followed the tradition of his father which was the post of a mayor of the town. He also became the mayor of Villar Perosa by following his father’s footsteps in 1895. He remained the mayor of that town for the entire of his life.

Start of Investment Career

While living his life as a mayor he came to know about the invention of horseless carriages, which was a brand new idea of that time and that idea attracted so many investors. He was also one of them. He had the skills of an engineer and entrepreneur as well. He also tried to get benefits of that idea by inventing that type of thing. He needed funds and for this purpose he met a count of Bricherasio named Count Emanuele Cacherano. He was sensing a great opportunity from there.

Founder of Fiat S.p.A.

He wanted to be a part of a successful motor company and his wish was fulfilled when he became a part of the foundation of Fiat Company. He gave a share of 400 dollars with some other investors on 11^th July, 1899 in the formation of the Fabbrica Italiana di Automobili Tornio, which later on became Fiat. From his little share in the company at the time of its opening he became the founded member of the company. His that share in 1899 has now became worthy of billions of dollars.

He became the managing director of that company one year after its formation. And in 1920 he got the designation of the chairman in 1920. That company’s first car plant was started in 1900 which comprised of a staff of 35 members who made 24 cars. After the company became a giant industry, it went public and shares were registered in the stock market named the Milan stock exchange. After the World War I this company became the third largest automobile company of Italian Automobile industry. Before the World War I it was on 30^th place.

He was appointed as a Senator of the company in 1923. He also remained on many prestigious designations in the company in between the era of two World Wars. He worked hard for making his company internationally known.

Fiat S.p.A. is a multinational company of Italy in the field of automobile manufacturing. It is a subsidiary or division of Fiat Group. Its initials stand for Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino. This company is famous for it innovation in car designs and also for its luxurious cars.

Death

He remained an active member of the company until the start of the Second World War. He died at the age of 79 years in 1945, just after the Second World War got started. Throughout his life he got many honors from the government of his country.
