Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) for International Students

The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program is also known as the Global UGRAD. Global UGRAD Program provides one semester scholarships to 250 outstanding undergraduate applicants from around the world for a non-degree full-time study that combined with community service, professional development, and cultural enrichment. Global UGRAD is a substantive exchange program designed to expose students to the USA educational system, society, and culture. Two organizations administer the Global UGRAD program on behalf of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Deadlines for scholarship applications vary by program and region. The aim of this scholarship program is to encourage mutual understanding between people of the United States and other countries, to provide a fulfilling exchange experience to drive academic cross cultural and leadership competencies for students from Global UGRAD countries, to increase student’s professional skills and academic knowledge, to raise student’s comprehensive understanding of the U.S., to ease opportunities for candidates to initiate social networks with U.S. host institutions and local communities, and to empower candidates to engage constructively in the civic life of their local and global communities.

Scholarship Description / Details

The Global UGRAD scholarship will cover:

  • International travel
  • Tuition fee
  • Room and board
  • Insurance of Accident/sickness insurance
  • A small monthly stipend
  • Funding for books
  • A small number of students will also receive additional English language training in the U.S. before the start of their academic program.

Eligibility Criteria

The Global UGRAD Program is open to everyone who meets the following criteria:

  • Over 18 years of age
  • A citizen of a Global UGRAD participating country, currently residing in that country
  • Enrolled as an undergraduate student in good standing at any public or private accredited university, and has at least one semester remaining at their home university
  • Completed secondary education in their home country
  • Have a good command of written and spoken English
  • Eligible to receive and maintain the U.S. student exchange visa
  • Cleared by a physician to participate in this scholarship
  • Committed to returning to their home country after the completion of the undergraduate program.
