Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) is a prestigious scholarship for international students. Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme Application Process

First of all, it should be remembered that there are two steps to apply for scholarship. Frist is initial application. Whereas, second is university application. It is mandatory to fill both application forms. If student left any form, it is not considered for scholarship.

Let see how to fill the first form. Every picture has picture number on the top left corner which helps to understand the step by step process. Above all go to the main page. It looks like the below picture. The link of main page is here.

Here you select the application procedure option and it leads toward online application page. The appearance of online page is shown below. There are two red color prominent options at the end of picture: “Explanatory notes for completion initial application” which provide explanation about how to fill the form and second option (HKPFS Electronic system – initial application) is the link of online application form. You have to select second one.

From picture 3, you have to select the “Initial Application Form” which leads you toward picture four.

Starting of page four is looks like image four. But we have to scroll down to the end of page. Here “Initial Application Form” option will be given. As shown in image 5. We will select it and initial online application form will appear.

An application form will appear which looks like image 6. In this form we have to fill all necessary requirements. There are four section of this form section A, B, C & D. Remember that image 6 and 7 are related to personal particulars. Let’s start from section A, named personal particular. The information required for personal particulars are

  • Name in English: Applicant have to enter name according to ID card or passport
  • Surname/family name: it is mandatory
  • Chinese name: if you have Chinese name then enter it otherwise don’t fill the textbox
  • Date of birth: Enter you date of birth as mention on your passport
  • Gender: select gender
  • Place of birth: In which country, candidate is living
  • Nationality: As mentioned on your passport
  • Passport number or ID card number
  • Provide First four digit of passport number
  • Or
  • Provide first four ID card number if don’t have passport
  • Email: Enter email address
  • Re-enter email: Again, enter the address, to check valid email id is correct or not
  • Contact number:
  • Insert country code, area code and number
  • Insert only digits
  • Omit + sign
  • In case there is no area code and country code, don’t left the textbox blank, put “–“

The next section is choosing the universities and programs for PhD studies. You can select two different university with same program or same university with different programs or different university with different programs. But it is remembered that first choice is considered as preferred choice.

In Section B, there are three options to fill. These are:

  • University: From given 8 university, select favorite university
  • Department: Select the department from university if available
  • Field of study / Program: Select the field of study from department
  • Proposed research field of PhD studies: In this section we select the option related to our proposed research field or topic
  • Keyword proposed research: In this section we can add keyword related to our research or title of our PhD proposal

Section C, namely, Authorization and Declaration. In this section, we select all the option by reading it. If any option is left application is not processing. We will select all the option.

In section D is source of information. We will fill different options in it. These options are:

  • Where did you know about this scholarship?
  • Online
  • Printed matter
  • Personal network or event
  • Applicant form Hong Kong
  • Applicant from outside Hong Kong
  • In this section, if not belong to any field leave the textbox blank

After filling the form shown in image 10, click the submit button.

When we submit the application a window will appear, which is shown in image 11. In this image we can see the HKPFS reference number: PF19-328835. This HKPFS reference number is very important to apply for fellowship otherwise we can’t apply on scholarship, our application is considered on self-support.

Now second step is started. In this step we apply in university. Every university has its own application process. It is difficult to show step by step process for each university.

We can see step 2 in image 11. There are link of admission portal of those universities which are selected by you in initial application. When you click the link, a portal will open like image 12.

Finally we have to fill the university form and upload documents. The required documents are mentioned in above link. It is necessary to scan all documents before fill the university application form.
