Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) Syllabus

Are you fantasizing about accomplishing a doctoral degree from abroad? Then MCAT is knocking on your door. It was developed by the American Association of Medical Colleges in 1928. It is the demand of all the medical schools in the United States and also in Canada. It is a computer-based standardized examination to assess medical students. However, all the exam administration is computer-based.
Major Drive Behind Credential
MCAT mainly assesses knowledge of scientific concepts, problem-solving skills and critical thinking. The major drive behind MCAT testing is to test those skills which are necessary for the study and practice of medicine.
How MCAT is organized?
The topics that are mainly covered on the MCAT fall into three broader multiple-choice sections:
- Physical Sciences: It assesses problem-solving skills in particular areas like general chemistry and physics.
- Verbal Reasoning: Mainly assess the ability to understand, evaluate and implement verbal information and arguments on textual discourse.
- Biological Sciences: In this tunnel, a candidate’s problem–solving skills will be evaluated specifically in the areas of biology and organic chemistry
Eligibility Criteria
MCAT demands certain requirements from the prospective candidates:
- Candidate has passed intermediate in Medical Sciences
- Studied Biology, Chemistry and Physics in Intermediate Level
- Maximum 65% marks acquired in intermediate
- Attested documents from the head of the university
Testing Fee
The standard fee is $335 for each attempt and for those who get fee assistance, the fee is $140.
In case of international testing, US$120 will be charged in addition to the above.
Scoring Conditions
Each of the three sections of MCAT (Verbal, biological sciences and physical sciences) is assigned a separate score on a range that mainly varies from 1 to 15. The total MCAT score is the sum of the score of each section in which the lowest score range varies from 3 to the highest score range of 45.
How to get registered?

- AAMC will provide the scheduling instructions along with dates and allocated centers.
Current Dates:
For the year 2024 dates are booked and the exam will be conducted on 24th September 2024 but for next year bookings are available.
Preparing for the MCAT: A Roadmap to Success
Let’s break down into parts how you can prepare for MCAT:
- Start Early: The more early you start, the more time you will have to revise your course and the more chances to clear it.
- Understand the Blueprint: You can’t clear a test if you don’t know how to study for it, so it is better to get a blueprint of the exam and start working on it.
- Gather Your Resources: Gather all the books and online material you will need to prepare and get started.
- Develop a Study Schedule: Make a timetable and make it as flexible as it is possible. Once it is set then you should stick to it no matter what happens.
- Master the Fundamentals: Avoid learning words from books and try to clear your concepts once you have had them then apply that concept to real-life scenarios.
- Practice Makes Perfect: Practice, Practice and Practice. The more you practice more you will be able to recreate it in a real exam.
- Join an MCAT Prep Course: Join some courses but from an authentic academy. Work on trips and tricks they provide you daily.
Where and When to Take the MCAT?
MCAT is administered by the Association of American Medical Schools. Many students do get scared of the notion that a test will be offered only once but MCAT is free from this notion. The exam is offered multiple times a year in various locations in the United States, Canada and other countries.
Note: Test-takers have no consent to sit in an exam more than 3 times from January 2024 to January 2025.
