Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships for National and International Students

The University of Melbourne is giving Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships to both native and international students. The goal of this scholarship program is to provide chances for national and foreign students to study at the University of Melbourne in Australia while also improving the research culture. Students who intend to pursue their master’s and doctoral research degrees at the University of Melbourne in Australia are encouraged to apply. The Melbourne Research Scholarship is offered to outstanding local and international research students. There are two types of scholarships:

Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships:

These scholarships are exclusively available to domestic students after getting an offer letter from the university and pay solely tuition fees.

Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRS):

These scholarships cover tuition fees as well as provide many other benefits. All local and international students who have received a university offer letter are eligible to apply for this award.

Applicants can choose any field of study (for their master’s / Ph.D. research degree programs) from the list of programs being offered by the University of Melbourne. The following programs are:

Number of Scholarships:

Approximately 600 scholarships are offered annually to the national and international students to study in master’s or Ph.D. research degree programs.

Duration of Scholarship:

02 years for masters and 04 years for Ph.D. research degree program.

Note: Prior study towards the scholarship course will minimize its duration.

Scholarship Description / Details:

Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships for National and International Students provide many grants for the applicants, these following grants are:

  • 100% fee remission and up to $135,000
  • The University of Melbourne provides a relocation allowance of $2,000 for interstate students and $3000 for international students who have not studied in Victoria within the past 12 months.
    Thesis allowance: The university reimburses thesis expenses ($420 for Master’s and $840 for Doctoral) when you provide a physical copy and receipts. Note: The request for refund must be made within 6 months after the purchase date.
  • If you are approved to register as a part-time student and then become a full-time student, your stipend will restart at the part-time rate until the maximum full-time equivalent term of the scholarship.
  • If you are approved to register as a full-time student but registered as a part-time student, your stipend will restart at the full-time rate from the date of approval until the maximum full-time equivalent term of the scholarship.
  • The fee offset will not be changed in any scenario.
  • Your stipend will not be affected if you take up to 20 days of recreation leave or 10 days of normal sick leave from your full-time equivalent course each year.

Research Training Program Scholarships (RTP):

  • Scholarships for Research Training Programs (RTP) include complete tuition coverage for the duration of the program of 02 years for master’s by research and 04 years for doctoral degrees.

Graduate Research Scholarships (MRS):

  • Graduate Research Scholarships (MRS) provide complete tuition coverage for the duration of a research degree program of 02 years for master’s degrees and 04 years for doctoral degrees.
  • Annual living allowance of $37,000 (for two years for master’s and 3.5 years for doctoral degrees). It includes limited paid sick, maternity, and parental leave.
  • Relocation grant of $2000 for students moving from states other than Victoria, and $3000 for those moving from outside of Australia.
  • Offers international students a single membership for Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).
  • Offered purely based on academic merit and applicant’s research potential.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered for the Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships for National and International Students, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Available for both domestic and international students.
  • To be eligible for this award, applicants must not have completed a research qualification at the same or higher level as the study being pursued.
  • Applicants must have applied for or be enrolled in a full-time Masters or Ph.D. by research program at the University of Melbourne.
