Biography of Michio Suzuki
Early Life
Michio Suzuki founder of Suzuki Motor Corporation was born on 10th February, 1887 in Hamamatsu, Shizouka, Japan. He belonged to a poor class family. His father was a cotton farmer. He lived his childhood at his birthplace.
Interest in building new things
He started his career as an apprentice on a carpenter’s shop. He had great interest in building new things and he wanted to be an inventor. At the age of 22 years he started his inventions by introducing his first invention that was a wooden loom which can be operated through pedals. It was a very complex device that was used in textiles for weaving of threads.
He started his business career by selling those looms in a small warehouse which was on rent.
Founder of Suzuki Motor Corporation
When the selling of those loops increased, his small shop also grew into a big company. He founded a company for manufacturing of those loops. He named that company as Suzuki Jidosha Kogyo which means in English as “Suzuki Loom Manufacturing Company”. He founded that company in 1920. This company was the beginning of a large motor company which was later on called as Suzuki Motor Company.
He started spreading his business on international level and by the year 1926, his company had its business outside the country. He started exporting his company’s manufactured looms to different areas of India and South Asia. He also enlarged his company by vertical means. He started developing ammunition for Japan’s military in that era.
After that company increased its subsidiaries and divisions again and it was in year 1952 when his company manufactured its first ever motorcycle. That motorcycle was a two stroke engine with 36cc piston ported. He just installed motors in simple bicycles and made them motorized. As the sales of motorcycles grew by time, his company dominated the motorcycle market of Japan. After its growth in motorcycle formation, he renamed the company to Suzuki Kabushikigaisha which means in English as Suzuki Motor Company.
When it acquired the whole market of motorcycles, it further increased its production. Now it was the turn for manufacturing of larger automobiles and vehicles. It was the year 1955, when his company introduced first ever automobile. That was a car named the Suzulight.
He also stared the export of those motor cycles in 1963 to America and started the business of exporting its cars to America in 1985. It continued its business to America until 2012.
He was the owner of more than hundred patents and didn’t stop his contribution in the designing process of the products of his company. He contributed a lot in his company’s growth and also remained its president till the mid of 1950s.
Suzuki Motor Company
Suzuki Motor Company is a multinational company of Japan in the field of automobile manufacturing. It’s headquarter is located in Minami ku, Hamamatsu, Japan. This company has the specialization in the manufacturing of four wheeler automobiles, motorcycles, and small trucks also. As far as ranking is concerned, in 2011 it ranked as the tenth biggest company in terms of automobile manufacturer. And according to the survey of Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), this company is the second largest company in Japan that produces small trucks and cars.
Now this company is being operated in 23 countries of the world with 35 production plants and more than 133 distribution dealers in almost 192 countries of the world. It has also the number of employees more than 45,000 which are working throughout the world.
Death
He died in 1982 at Hamamatsu, Shizouka, Japan. After his death the company was taken over by his son as its President.
