National Research Foundation (NRF) Department of Science and Technology (DST) Scholarships 2016
The call for Master’s and Doctoral funding instruments are part of the Innovation Bursary Scheme (IBS) funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and managed by the National Research Foundation (NRF). These scholarships are offered for South African citizens, South African permanent residents as well as a limited percentage of non-South African citizens registered at a South African public university. The objectives of the IBS are to:
- Contribute towards the increase in the number and quality of South African postgraduate students in all areas of: Science, Engineering and Technology and in the Social Sciences and Humanities, at the Master’s and Doctoral levels in South Africa
- Build a pipeline of the next generation of skilled scientists and researchers in South Africa

Scholarships Description / Details
NRF provides some grants/facilities for students, these are:
- Masters Scholarships: R80 000 per annum
- Doctoral Scholarships: R110 000 per annum
- Masters scholarship-holders applicants may apply for a travel grant of up to R10 000 which can be used to attend local conferences, workshops, a visit to a laboratory or, any other activity that supports the beneficiaries’ current research progression
- Doctoral scholarship-holders candidates may apply for a travel grant of up to R15 000, for local travel, and up to R50 000, for international travel. These funds may be used to attend local conferences, workshops, visits to a laboratory or, any other activity that supports the beneficiaries’ current research progression
- Scholarship-holders who wish to access the travel grant must complete a travel grant application form provided by their university postgraduate office/research office for submission to, consideration and approval/disapproval by the NRF
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants for these scholarships must meet the following criteria:
- Eligible applicants of South African citizens, South African permanent residents as well as a limited percentage of non-South African citizens
- All applicants’ for full-time Masters or Doctoral studies in South Africa must be registered or, intending to register at a South African public university
- Applicants that already hold a degree at the level, for which they are applying for funding, are not eligible

- Applications must be submitted through an online application process to the NRF
- Applicants must apply for the 2016 NRF Innovation Masters or Doctoral Scholarship through https://nrfsubmission.nrf.ac.za/
- Register / Login using your ID number and password
- Go to “My Applications” and select “Create Application”
- Select the call for which you are applying to viz. NRF- Innovation Master’s and Doctoral Scholarship Call for 2016
- Remember to complete all compulsory sections of the application as incomplete applications will not be considered for support by the NRF
- Attach the require documents in one PDF file in the following order:

- Proof of permanent residence (if applicable)

- If you should not follow the guidelines for attaching require documents, your application will not be considered

My name is Ibrahim Sadoun, 30 years old.from Libya.

I have been living in Malaysia since 2012,and I have Done my masters in International Law at the International islamic University at Malaysia.
I am planning to continue my PHD in international law. My area of focus is Sovereignty in international Law between the legal and political Dimensions (A focus on intervention on behalf of Human rights)
I chose this Title for my research because it is related to what has happened in 2011 in Libya and consequence the follows until the current time.
As you know Libya and it’s citizens are still suffering from Violation to the Sovereignty on behalf of Human rights.
In 2011 the International community intervened on behalf human rights just in the first few month but after that they left the libyans deal with ISIS , Islamist extremists ,and many other radical groups which created a big suffering for the Libyans .
The following steps are concerned my research 1. What are the rules and principles regulating the sovereignty in international law between the legal and political dimensions?
2. What are the current potential threats towards the sovereignty in international law between the legal and political dimensions in general particularly on intervention of human rights?
3. What is humanitarian intervention from the Western and Islamic perspectives?
OBJECTIVES OF THE RESEARCH
1. To examine the concept of sovereignty in international law between the legal and political dimensions focus on intervention on behalf of human rights.
2. To examine the adequacies and inadequacies of the framework sovereignty in international law between the legal and political dimensions focus on intervention on behalf of human rights.
3. To examine the improvements of sovereignty in international law between the legal and political dimensions focus on intervention on behalf of human rights.
4.To examine the organisation and structure of sovereignty in international law between the legal and political dimensions focus on intervention on behalf of human rights.
5.To provide a comprehensive guidance to the implementation of sovereignty in international law between the legal and political dimensions focus on intervention on behalf of human rights for the global society.
