Biography of Orkut Buyukkokten

Early Life

Orkut Buyukkokten founder of Orkut is a famous Turkish software engineer. He was born in Konya, Turkey in the year of 1975 on February 6th. After his early education from his local school, he joined academy of science for his further studies. After that, he was enrolled in Bilkent University of Ankara where he achieved his Bachelor’s degree in field of computer engineering and information sciences. Later on, after his BS degree, he moved to USA where he joined Stanford University and earned his MS and PhD degrees from there in computer science.

Interest in Software Engineering

After his higher school studies Orkut was interested in field of computer science and software engineering. Software engineering was his passion that is why he earned his BS degree in the same field. Following this he continued his studies in software engineering regardless of the fact that he was offered a scholarship in medical sciences after achieving higher grades in his secondary school studies. He rejected the scholarship and completed his education in the field of computer engineering. After his studies, he conducted some researches in the University of Stanford which were focusing on Web search and efficient PDA usage.

Founder of Orkut

He was working as a software engineer in different companies and his work was considered unique and influential. In the year of 2001 fall, he introduced his first social media network named as Club Nexus in Stanford University. After growth of this network, he promoted this network to Orkut which became very famous eventually as number of students visiting this social network was increasing day by day.

Orkut was founded by Orkut Buyukkokten in the year of 2001 in Stanford University. Formerly it was known as Club Nexus which was just a college based social network offering chatting services, email sending, posting events, to buy and sell different goods and to search for people having similar interests. This social club became very famous in just 2 years and attracted the attention of more than 2000 undergraduates in a short span of time. This thing led him to promote this social club to Orkut in the year of 2004 on 24th January. Presently it has almost 33 million users worldwide and is considered as the one of the famous websites of social networking.

Present Situation

Orkut Buyukkokten is presently 39 years of age and currently working as a product manager in Google Inc. He is also a certified Masseuse.
