Biography of Ren Zhengfei
Early Life
Ren Zhengfei founder of Huawei was born in China on 25th of October, 1944. He belonged to a rural family. His father and mother, both were teachers at school. He got his primary and secondary school education from a school at very distant mountainous town in the province of Guizhou. After that, in 1963, he went to “Chongqing Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture” for higher studies.
Military Services
Then he worked as a military technologist in the People’s Liberation Army. “People’s Liberation Army (PLA)” was a research unit. While his time span in PLA, he didn’t get any rank in military. There he made so many achievements in technology at different levels. His job was to establish the Liao Yang Chemical Fiber Factory. He was promoted at last as Deputy Director. In 1978, because of those achievements he was selected in a delegate for attending the National Science Conference.
Entry into Business World and founder of Huawei
He was retired as a military man from PLA in 1982, because of large reduction of 500,000 personnel. After leaving that job, he started working in logistics services of the Shenzhen South Sea Oil Corporation. But he was not satisfied from that job and wanted to open business of his own. So in 1987 he found new company with the initial investment of CNY21000 that was named as “Huawei”.
Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd
It is a Chinese name. In English it is pronounced as “hwa-way”. It is a Chinese multinational company. It’s headquarter is in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. They are specialist in telecommunications and networking services and equipment development. Huawei is the world’s biggest company in terms of making telecommunications equipment, suppressing Ericsson Company in 2012.
This company was founded by ex-military man named Ren Zhengfei. He formed this company as a private sector company which was owned by employees. The mission of this company was to provide telecommunication network services and equipment to the market of China and as well as outside the China in all over the world. Today it is a vast company with 46% of employees working in only Research and Development area. Total employees ranged up to 140,000. There are 21 R&D departments and are working in different countries of the world like, China itself, Pakistan, United Kingdom, Colombia, Germany, Sweden, Ireland, United States of America, Canada, Colombia, Russia, India, and Turkey. An investment of 5 million U.S dollars in R&D department was reported in 2013.
Later Life
After the formation of Huawei in 1988, a year after he was selected as the CEO of the company and he is holding on this seat till present day. But as far as the ownership and control of the company is concerned, he holds only 1.42% of total shares of company, which are of US$450 million. Its employees hold remaining percentage of shares. So, for him it is impossible to sell the interest of his employees.
