Biography of Samuel Van Den Bergh

Early Life

Samuel Van Den Bergh founder of Unilever was a famous European Businessman. He was born in the year of 1864 on April 6th in Oss, Netherlands. His father name was Simon Van Den Bergh who was the founder of a German margarine factory which was opened in Kleve. He started his early education in his town school when he was just six years of age. After his early education, he was admitted in City College for further studies. For his formal education, he didn’t continue his education and soon quitted the education after his college studies.  

Initial Career and Interest in Business

He was not much interested in studies, that is why he didn’t continue his higher studies and quitted education after college. Soon after his education completion, he started his own career. His father’s company was a margarine factory which was known as the first margarine company of the Germany. His great interest in business led him to a success in the field and soon he was considered as a pioneer of the industry. He was facing serious competition in the market from another margarine producer company from Oss in Netherlands which was of Antonius Johannes Jurgens. He merged his company with Antonius’s company and it was named it as Margarine Unie in year of 1927.

Co Founder of Unilever

Samuel Van Den is widely credited as the Co Founder of Unilever which was founded in the year of 1930. After merging his company with Antonius Margarine Company, they were the tycoon of the industry. A person named as William lever had an idea of starting a food products producing company. His idea about starting any proper business was very attention picking but the actual problem he was facing, that was of shortage of financial resources to invest in the business and to start a company. He met with Antonius Johannes Jurgens and Samuel Van Den Bergh and presented his idea about Unilever. Both of these guys were the CEOs of Margarine Unie at that time. His idea influenced their minds and it resulted in merging and mixing of their company in Unilever.

Unilever

Unilever was co founded by William Lever, Antonius Johannes Jurgens and Samuel Van Den Bergh in the year of 1930 on 1st January. Other founders except William Lever were already running a company named as Margarine Unie. This company was merged with company of William Lever and as a result it became Unilever. It has been more than 80 year since foundation of Unilever and presently it is one of the biggest multinational food industries with branches and stores in more than 70 countries of the world. Presently this company is serving many kinds of goods which include food, beverages, cleaning agents and personal care products.

Death

He died on 4th of February in the year of 1941 in Nice which is a city of France. At the time of his death, he was almost 77 years of age.
