Biography of Thomas Burberry
Thomas Burberry was actually a businessman of who launched business of branded clothes. He is also renowned for his invention of gabardine which is a woven cloth made for making suits etc.
Early Life
Thomas Burberry founder of Burberry Group was born on 27th August 1835 at Brockham Green located near Dorking, the United Kingdom. He got his early education from the local schools of his area that included Brockham Green Village School.
As an early learner, he worked with a local shopkeeper. He apprenticed at a draper’s shop which was located in its native town.
Founder of Burberry Group
After completing his education and training process at that draper’s shop he entered into the market of clothing and outfitting. He founded his own outfitting shop in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England in 1856. That shop was later on turned into Burberry Group plc.
Promotion of His Shop
After founding that outfit shop, he came to understand the need for publicity and promotion of the shop. He promoted his outfitting through making some of the influential and famous personalities as his customers. He provided his weatherproofs to the Lord Kitchener and Lord Baden-Powell and made them his product’s users. In this way he used to promote his business and eventually his business expanded throughout the United Kingdom and turned into a branded outfitting business as one of the largest clothing industry of the United Kingdom.

This company is involved in the manufacturing, designing, and distribution of luxury fashion items that include clothes, fashion accessories, sunglasses, fragrances, and cosmetics.
It is famous for its checked pattern of clothes which also became very popular and copied throughout the world. Its founder designed a trench coat which became the mark of familiarity of the company.
It works on the franchise basis; different franchises were established in different parts of the world to connect the business all over the world. From those franchises, the products of the company further transferred to other third party stores. Those third party stores are the last phase of its distribution process because from those third party stores its products are being sold to the final consumers and users.
Its tag name and status of luxuries brands further increased when the Queen Elizabeth II and the Prince of Wales granted his company, special type of warrants, which were called as Royal Warrants. Although the company was closed in Wales later on but it maintained its status as a Royal Warrant company.

Private Life
Apart from his role in the field of business, in his private life he married two times. His first marriage was with Catherine Hannah Newman. After the end of his first marriage, he married again with his second wife named Mary Marshall. He was a father of two sons. In religious point of view, he was a Baptist and was devoted to his religion. He was fond of offering prayers in early morning every day. He has six children and he got married two times from the first marriage he has four daughters and two sons. He married to Mary Marshell for the second time. By nationality he was English.
Later Life
After the formation and expansion of his own business he retired from his job to Abbot’s Court which was located near Weymouth, Dorset in 1917. He also worked as a teetotaler and ran so many campaigns against smoking of tobacco.

Death
After his retirement he lived his life at his home in Hook, Basingstoke in Hampshire, England where he died in 4th April 1926.
