Biography of Trip Hawkins

Early Life

Trip Hawkins founder of Electronic Arts, Inc. (EA) was born on 28^th December 1954 in Pasadena, California. He is known in the field of computer gaming technology with the name of Trip Hawkins but his real name is William M. Hawkins III. He physically looked fascinating with dark hairs and pretty white face.

Interest in Gaming and designing his own field of study

From his very childhood he was interested in computer games. His hobby was to design his own made board games in his high school life. He carried forward his love for games in his university life. He was a student at Harvard University. He didn’t get degree in any particular field because of his interest in different fields. He took a variety of subjects from the fields of sociology and computer science, got them mixed and formed a special type of degree which he called as a B.A. in the field of “Strategy and Applied Games Theory”.

Development of Games and Higher Studies

While his stay at Harvard, in the mid of 70s, his genius mind invented his first game. That game was a tabletop football game. He got financial backup from his father for manufacturing this game. He sold it through mail. This game became very much popular but he couldn’t increase its selling via mail because of its limitations which includes huge record keeping also. He realized the importance of computers that it is a perfect machine for gaming programs. At the same time he got his MBA from Stanford University.

Producing and selling games on individual basis was not sufficient enough for earning handsome amount of money, that’s why he wanted to open a computer gaming company. He was very fortunate that just after completing his MBA he got a job at Apple, as its first ever marketing person.

While working at Apple Company, his job was very much informative and he had to deal with a number of persons. At that time home computers were gaining the market and it was the best time for introducing a wonderful gaming company which will provide home entertainment to its customers.

In 28^th May, 1982 he with coordination of some of his colleagues in Apple, founded a gaming company with the name EA. He wanted to open this company with Amazin Software name but due to some reasons he had to cancel that name and after storming of different names he come up to conclusion with this name.

Electronic Arts, Inc. is commonly known as EA. It is an American company in the field of gaming. This company develops markets, publishes, and distributes video games all over the world. It’s headquarter is in Redwood City, California, United States of America. Initially it was started as home computer games producing company but in 2011 EA became the world’s number third gaming company in terms of revenue earning.

Later Life

After working for nine years as CEO of Electronic Arts, he decided to innovate something in hardware field. So in 1991 he founded 3DO, a gaming hardware producing company.

His hobbies include playing games, which he still enjoys. He was introduced into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences’ Hall of Fame in 2005. He was ranked at number eighth in that list of hall of famers.
