TWAS-DFG Cooperation Grants

The TWAS-DFG is offering research grants in collaboration with German Research Foundation for researchers from DFG countries (sub-Saharan Africa, including South Africa researcher). This program is offered for researchers of different institutions and universities in Germany. The main objective of TWAS – DFG research grants is to promote the high quality education in the developing countries by providing the researchers the opportunities for research in well reputed institutions and universities. The administration and financial operation of TWAS is undertaken by UNESCO in accordance with an agreement signed by the two organizations.

Field of Study: The researcher can choose any projects/fields or areas from the Natural and Social Sciences fields under the TWAS-DFG grants.

Duration: The duration of this research grant is more than three (3) months and must be undertaken within 12 months of the award.

Awards Description: TWAS-DFG research grant is offering a number of grants for the researchers who will be granted this award. These grants can be as:

• Cover visa
• Health Insurance
• Travel expenses
• Costs for the stay in Germany

Eligibility Criteria: A researcher holding the following eligibility criteria can apply for the research grant by TWAS – DFG:

• Researcher must hold a PhD and must have obtained it not earlier than 2010
• For this grant researcher must be residence of a sub-Saharan African country, including South Africa, and hold a research position in sub-Saharan Africa
• Already applicants on site in Germany are not eligible
• Successful applicants can only reapply once for another cooperation visit
• Women scientists/researchers are especially encouraged to apply

Awards Bond: Applicants/researcher must provide evidence that they will return to their home country upon completion of their Cooperation Visit
