The University of Queensland (UQ) is offering postgraduate (PhD) research scholarships to Australian and Permanent Residents, New Zealand nationals, and international students. These UQ scholarships are available to individuals who desire to pursue their PhD studies at the University of Queensland in Australia. It is ranked #40 in the 2025 QS World University Rankings.
The University of Queensland (UQ) is a publicly funded research institution based in Brisbane, Australia. UQ is Australia’s fifth-oldest university. It was established by the state government in 1909. UQ is recognized as one of the most prominent universities in the world and as one of Australia’s top institutions. Duration of Scholarship

The duration of the postgraduate (PhD) research program is 3.5 years with the potential for one extension according to UQ and RTP Scholarship Policy.

Scholarship Description / Details

  • A travel grant of AUD $8,500 annually.
  • A living stipend of $35,000 year, tax-free (2024 rate), annually indexed, and OSHC (Single Overseas Student Health Cover)
  • Training grant worth AUD $3,000

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, applicants must study full-time, onshore in Australia or the UK.
■ Be nominated by a school or institute at UQ.
■ The Graduate School will determine if you meet all entrance requirements for the research higher degree program.
■ Do not have a certification at the same or higher level than your research higher degree program.
■ Not obtaining more than 75% of the RTP Scholarship living allowance rate while pursuing a research higher degree program.
■ Not getting a Commonwealth-funded tuition fee scholarship.
■ Requirements for academic entry, including English competence.

How to Apply / Download Scholarship Form / Documents Required

  • Before applying, check your eligibility by reviewing entry requirements.
  • Find a supervisor.
  • Prior to applying, you must either find a supervisor in your field who agrees to back the initiative you’ve presented.
  • Find out how to get in touch with a manager or a project that interests you to join.
  • A supervision agreement is required prior to applying; please provide the name(s) of your supervisor(s) with your application.

Your application can only be evaluated once your referees have responded and all outstanding documentation and school/institute endorsements have been received.
