University of Waikato Doctoral Scholarships for National and International Students 2021 / 2022
University of Waikato is offering scholarships for New Zealand citizens, permanent residents, and international students all over the world. These awards are offered for Doctoral (Postgraduate, Research) program at the University of Waikato in the New Zealand. This scholarship is offered in three rounds. First round closes on January 31, the second round will close on May 31 and third round will be closed by September 30.
Field of Study / Subjects
Applicants can choose any of the fields of research study for their postgraduate research or doctoral study program that are mentioned below:
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
- Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA)
- Doctor of Education (EdD)
- Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD)

Number of Scholarships
Upto 75 number of scholarships are offered annually to the national and international students to study in doctoral research degree program.
Duration of Scholarship
03 years for doctoral or postgraduate research degree programs.
Scholarship Description / Details
University of Waikato Doctoral Scholarships for national and international students provide many grants for the applicants, these following grants are:
- Living allowance value of up to $25,000 per year, which is paid in monthly installments for upto 36 months (three years) in total.
- The total term of the Doctoral Scholarship will not exceed 36 months (three years) of full-time doctoral enrolment (or equivalent for part-time study).
- The value of the Scholarship may be revised at the discretion of the University.
- Any additional costs such as medical insurance, moving costs, and research expenses must be met by the student.

Eligibility Criteria
In order to be considered for the University of Waikato Doctoral Scholarships for National and International Students, applicants must fulfill the following criteria:
- Open for New Zealand citizens, permanent residents, and international students.
- Applicants must be seeking to obtain their first full-time doctoral qualification.
- Candidates will normally be seeking to obtain their first doctoral qualification.
- Must have an Offer of Place to enroll, or are already enrolled (e.g. PhD, DMA, or Part 2 only of an EdD or SJD).
- Those applicants who are employed by the university are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
- Current doctoral candidates who have not gained a University of Waikato Doctoral Scholarship may, in exceptional circumstances, be nominated by their Faculty/School for consideration for a reduced-tenure Scholarship.
- Successful candidates will not be permitted to undertake paid employment that exceeds an annual total of 500 hours. This condition applies to all doctoral candidates, whether enrolled full-time or part-time
Note: Scholarship recipients will not be permitted to undertake paid employment that exceeds an annual average of fifteen hours per week.

Applicants can apply for this scholarship, must follow some steps:
- Applicants must apply for admission in doctoral studies at university of Waikato.
- Application must be made via online application system.
- There is no separate application for this scholarship. Applicants will have to mention during their admission application that they want to be considered for this scholarship.
