Victoria University Scholarships 2025
Victoria University is offering master’s scholarships to international students from various nations. These scholarships are available to students wishing to pursue master’s studies at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. These scholarships are available to students pursuing full-time, research-focused master’s degrees at Victoria University. These scholarships will be offered to Victoria University students based on their academic achievements.
Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington offers scholarships to students pursuing a full-time, research-oriented Master’s degree. Individuals who are already or will be eligible for a Master’s degree via thesis worth 90 points or more are encouraged to apply. The scholarship will only be paid while the student is finishing the thesis course; thus, for some students, this will be Part 2 of a two-year Master’s program.

Scholarships Description / Details
Victoria University gives some grants/facilities for students, including:
- A one-year stipend of $15,000 plus tuition fees (domestic expenditures for 120 points only).
- Domestic fees
- International students (except Australia) must pay the difference between the international and domestic costs.
- The Scholarships Office will pay all university expenses directly.
- To co-tenure a Wellington Master’s by Thesis Scholarship with other prizes totaling more than $6,000, approval from the University Scholarships Committee is required. The co-tenure of other prizes may diminish the scholarship income.
Eligibility Criteria
These scholarships require applicants to meet the following criteria:
- Applicants must be eligible at the time of application or by Trimester 2 of the next year.
- Eligible to enroll in a Master’s program with a thesis of 90 points or more, either in a one-year program or Part 2 of a Master’s program.
- The Master’s thesis usually has a course number of 591 or 592.
- Portfolio courses worth 90 points or more, marked as 593, are also acceptable if they adhere to the University’s Master’s by Thesis criteria.
- Students enrolled in 60-point dissertation courses are not eligible.
- Applicants must hold an Honors or Master’s Part 1 degree from a New Zealand university with a GPA of at least 7.0.
- Meeting the 7.0 GPA requirement is the minimum; a higher GPA may be necessary depending on application volume and available funding.
- Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree Part 1 with academic accomplishment comparable to a First-Class Honours degree from a New Zealand university.
- Have an excellent academic record
Selection Criteria:
- The University Research Scholarships Committee, a subcommittee of the University Research Committee, shall provide scholarships solely based on academic performance.
• Applicants must plan to study full-time at Te Herenga Waka, Victoria University of Wellington.
• Applicants must plan to pursue a Master’s degree with a thesis worth at least 90 points.
Selection process
All Wellington Master’s by Thesis Scholarship offers will be made in late December of the application year.
