Biography of Guccio Gucci

Early Life

Guccio Gucci Founder of Gucci was born in 26th March, 1881 in Florence city of Italy. He was a son of Italian fashion designer and businessman. His father belonged to manufacturing area of country’s northern side. In his early childhood he became an immigrant, to the countries like Paris of France and London of England. Due to this he was not educated enough.

Early Working Career

When he migrated to London in 90’s, he was a teenager. His source of income was lifting luggage in hotels. He worked as a coolie at London in the Savoy Hotel.

Interest in Fashion Industry

When he worked as a lift boy in London’s hotel, he used to serve the people from elite class. Those people from elite classes carried highly designed bags and suitcases with them. He was very inspired from those designs and stylish bags. He turned towards fashion and started his carrier in that field then.

Founder of Gucci

After getting inspiration from the Savoy Hotel London’s job, he came back to his home town Florence and initiated a business of manufacturing travel bags and related accessories. In 1921, he founded a small shop of leather saddler items. He started that shop with the name “House of Gucci”. In 1920s, he used to sell leather bags to horsemen. Slowly and gradually he was gaining name and fame in this field. He formed reputation for providing quality products by employing best craftsman of the area into his shop.

By 1938 his business was expanded to Rome. Within no time his small business became a large family owned business. His four sons Aldo, Vasco, Ugo, and Rodolfo also joined the company. He opened the first store of Gucci Company in Milan in 1951, and after two years, Gucci also spread in foreign territories when Manhattan store was opened.

Gucci

It is a multinational company of Italy in the field of fashion and design. Gucci is a brand name which indicates the quality and fashionable products of leather. One part of Gucci Group is held by French company Kering. And its founder, as mentioned earlier, is Guccio Gucci. It was initially started in 1921 in Florence.

As far as ranking is concerned, Gucci is the biggest selling brand of Italy. And in revenue, it is ranked on 41st position in “Top Global 100 Brands”. According to Forbes list of 2013, Gucci was among the most valuable brands, securing a position on 38th slot.

It has almost 278 stores which are directly operated by the company all over the world, surveyed in 2009. It uses franchise system and fashion department stores for wholesaling purposes. In 2013 the value of Gucci brand was estimated at 12.1 billion U.S. Dollars, and its recorded sales were $4.7 billion USD.

Death

He died on 2nd January 1953. He had a big family which included his wife Aida Calvelli and four sons. All family members played a role in its progress. After his death, his son Aldo led company to a distinct position in international market by introducing its boutiques in New Tork city, London, and Paris.
