Biography of Jimmy Wales

Early Life

Jimmy Wales founder of Wikipedia is a famous internet entrepreneur of United States of America. He is also known by another name as Jimbo. He was born in the year of 1966 on August 7th in Huntsville, Alabama in United States. His father was a grocery store manager. Jimmy got his early education from school of his mother which was a one room schoolhouse. He was an intellectual child from very young age who was very much interested in studies. After this, he was admitted in Randolph school where he completed his secondary school studies.  

Interest in Computer Science and Business

Jimmy Wales had a business mind from very young age. That was the reason that, after his early education, he selected the finance for further study. He was enrolled in Auburn University and earned his bachelor’s degree in Finance from there. After this, he joined University of Indiana for Masters in finance and University of Alabama for PhD degree in finance. His interest in computer was not hidden from anyone and he was very keen about it from his young adulthood. With his studies, he used to work on internet and computer and was considered as a good internet entrepreneur.

Founder of Wikipedia

Jimmy Wales felt the need of an online encyclopedia which may have everything in it. His idea was to develop such a website where people may find information about everything of the world. As he was interested in business he thought to make it his own business and it resulted in launching of Wikipedia. After discussion and work with Larry Sanger who was a doctorate student of philosophy at that time, Jimmy Wales launched his free encyclopedia named as Nupedia in the year of 2000.

Wikipedia is truly a felt based need of modern times and world of internet is incomplete without it.

Presently, jimmy Wales is residing in London in United Kingdom and he is almost 47 years of age. By founding of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales’s business mind got satisfied as this website is the greatest business for him and earning him very good revenue.
