Biography of Walter Houser Brattain

Early Life

Walter Houser Brattain  inventor of transistor was a very famous and well known scientist. If we say that he changed the dimensions of physics through his remarkable and valuable invention, then it would not be considered as wrong. He was a man of passion and dignity. Walter was born in the year of 1902 in the month of February on the 10th day. He was born in Xiamen which is a sub part of Qing. Qing is located in China but the Walter was of American nationality. His parents were American from the descent that had moved to China.

Further life

Walter Houser was the son of Ross R. Brattain and his mother’s name was Ottilie Houser. His father was not any rich man and he used to teach the students hence teaching was his profession. After the earlier education, Walter earned higher degree in electronic engineering and got authenticity in the field. After the completion of his education, he started his career as an electronic engineer but with that, physics was also his passion. As electronics is a sub branch of physics, his interest was worth related to the field.

Inventor of Transistor

Walter Houser Brattain started his career and later on, for much professional work, he joined the company Bell labs which was a famous company of electronics. He started working in the company and tried to invent something new and important in the field. Hence he succeeded in his task and invented the transistor with two of his other co workers named as John Bardeen and William Shockley. All of the guys were much praised for their valuable invention and hence, they were awarded the Nobel Prize of physics in the year of 1956. The prize was shared by three of the guys and it laid the foundation of a new history in fields of electronics and physics.

Transistor

Transistor was invented by William Shockley, John Bardeen and Walter Houser Brattain for the first time. All of them were co inventors. Transistor can be said as a device which is in form of semiconductor. The main function of the transistor is to switch and amplify the electric power and electronic signals. Generally a transistor is made up of such material which holds the capability of semi conduction. Normally, it has three terminals and all of them are connected to an outer circuit for the procession. When a voltage is applied to any of the pair of terminals from those three, then it works for the change of current working from other terminals. Now a day, transistors are made in both of the forms as integrated in form of circuits are simply packaged as individuals.

Death

He died in the year of 1987 on October 13 in Seattle, Washington. He was almost 85 years and some months of age at the time of his death.
