The Melbourne Research Scholarship Program for National and International Students is a scholarship program offered by the University of Melbourne in Australia to hardworking national and international students who want to study at the University of Melbourne Australia. The aim of this scholarship program is to give opportunities to both national and international students to study at the University of Melbourne in Australia and to enhance the research culture. Approximately 600 scholarships are offered annually to the national and international students to study in master’s or Ph.D. research degree programs. These scholarships have two variations;

  • Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships:

These scholarships are offered to domestic students only (on receiving an offer letter from the university) and cover only the tuition fees.

  • Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRS):

These scholarships cover tuition fees as well as provide many other benefits. All domestic and international students can apply for this scholarship after receiving an offer letter from the university.

This scholarship program offers to cover the following expenses:

  • Relocation allowance: The university offers to pay for relocation allowance ($2000 for the student who has relocated from interstate and $3000 for students who have relocated from outside the Australia) for the students who were living overseas, interstate, prior to applying for the scholarship program have not studied at an institution in Victoria (within 12 months), or those who had to relocate to Melbourne to begin their course of study at the University of Melbourne.
  • Thesis allowance: The university will reimburse the expenses of the thesis ($420 for a Master degree program thesis and $840 for a Doctoral degree program thesis) when you lodge a copy (hard) of your thesis and submit receipts. Note: request for reimbursement must be made within 6 months of the date of purchase.
  • If you are given the approval to register as a part time student and you are registered as a full time student, your stipend will resume at the part time stipend rate from the date that approval is given up to the maximum full time equivalent duration of the scholarship.
  • If you are given the approval to register as a full time student and you are registered as a part time student, your stipend will resume at the full time stipend rate from the date that approval is given up to the maximum full time equivalent duration of the scholarship.
  • Fee offset will not be affected in either case.
  • If you take recreation leave (for up to 20 days) or standard sick leave (for up to 10 days) from your course (full time equivalent) per annum, your stipend will not be affected (suspended or extended).
  • Research Training Program Scholarships (RTP):
  • Covers full tuition fee for the whole duration of the research degree program (02 years for masters by research degree and 04 years for doctoral degree).
  • Graduate Research Scholarships (MRS):
  • Covers full tuition fee for the whole duration of the research degree program (02 years for masters by research degree and 04 years for doctoral degree).
  • Living allowance of $30,600 paid yearly (for 02 years for masters and 3.5 years for doctoral degree). It includes limited paid sick, maternity, or parenting leaves.
  • Grant of $2000 for relocation if the student is moving from states other than Victoria and $3000 if the student is moving from outside of Australia.
  • Covers Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership (for international students only).
  • Offered purely based on academic merit and applicant’s research potential.

After clicking the website scroll down and click ‘Application process’.

Click the above link ‘applied for a graduate research course’ to open the application form. After clicking the application process following options will appear.

Step 2:

After clicking the  link, scroll down and this page will appear.

Click ‘International applications’.

Step 3:

After clicking international applications, scroll down and this page will appear.

Click ‘Applications’.

Step 4:

After clicking Applications this page will appear.

Click ‘Apply with Melbourne’.

Step 5:

After clicking Apply with Melbourne this page will appear.

To fill the form as a new student click the link ‘you can apply online’

Step 6:

After clicking the  link scroll down and this page will appear.

Click ‘Apply as a new Student’ at the bottom right

Step 7:

After clicking Apply as a new student a form will appear.

Here you will enter your personal details like:

  • First, select your title
  • Then mention your name and your family name
  • Then in the below boxes select your date of birth
  • And in the last select your gender.

Then scroll down.

 Step 8:

After scrolling down this page will appear.

Then scroll down. Here you will enter your email address and phone details.

Step 9:

After scrolling down this page will appear.

Here you will enter your address details, your country name, your state name, and postcode.

Then scroll down.

Step 10:

After scrolling down this page will appear.

Here you will select your residency and citizenship details.

Then scroll down.

Step 11:

After scrolling down this page will appear.

Here you will mark the terms and conditions and click ‘Proceed with Registration’.

After completing this tab fill other tabs and submit your application.
