Schwarzman Scholars Program 2021-2022

Schwarzman Scholars Program is offered MS degree scholarships for international applicants at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Designed to prepare the next generation of global leaders, Schwarzman Scholars is the first scholarship created to respond to the geopolitical landscape of the 21st Century.

Numbers of Scholarships

The class that begins in summer 2022 will include 125 scholars, and the program will grow to include up to 200 students in coming years. About 45% of the first class will come from the United States, 20% from China, and 35% from the rest of the world

Master’s Degree Program duration is 12 months (1 year)

Scholarships Description / Details

Schwarzman Scholars will provide:

  • Tuition Fees
  • Room and board
  • Travel to and from Beijing at the beginning and end of the academic year
  • An in-country study tour
  • Required course books and supplies
  • Lenovo laptop and Smartphone
  • Health insurance
  • A modest personal stipend of $3,500

Eligibility Criteria

  • Undergraduate degree or first degree from an accredited college or university or its equivalent
  • Applicants must be at least 18 but not yet 29 years of age as of August 1, 2021.
  • Applicants must demonstrate strong English language skills:
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL PBT): Min score 600
  • Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) : Min score 100
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Min score 7

This requirement is waived for applicants who graduated from an undergraduate institution where the primary language of instruction was English for at least two years of the applicant’s academic program.  The requirement will also be waived for applicants who have studied in English for two or more years at a Master’s degree level or higher.

How to Apply / Download Scholarships Form / Documents Required

  • Applicants must complete an online application form
  • Submit required documents:
  • A complete and successfully submitted online application
  • Uploaded transcripts/academic records
  • Four electronic letters of recommendation
  • For currently enrolled undergraduate students, one of the four letters should be an institutional letter of recommendation
  • Submission of a video is strongly recommended but not required.  The video can be up to one minute in length, and candidates are invited to introduce themselves
  • An essay in three sections: Personal Statement(up to 750 words), Leadership Essay (up to 750 words), Current Affairs Essay (up to 500 words)

Applicants who hold passports from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao will apply: 1 January to 31 May 2021 through China Application Portal.

Applicants holding a passport from any other country will apply: 21 September 2021.
